    I’m not from the US and it has been funny to see everybody call everybody else liberal. To this very say I still have no clue what which group means when they call someone liberal, yet it seems never to be a good thing.

      Liberal in common American usage refers to the political left in general. Technically it means an ideology that promotes democracy, free markets, individual liberties, civil rights and social programs. People often use this term when they mean social liberalism.

      However, people on the right in the US use it as a pejorative and generally use it as a term to, “other,” with and associate with what they consider the more negative aspects of the left in general. The irony is that until recently the US right themselves practiced classical liberalism, though they are now dabbling in christofascism.
