Europe! I will be going to Seville, Lisbon, Dublin, London and Amsterdam so if any of you have any recommendations/can’t miss experiences in those places let me know!
Oh wow! What’s the duration of your trip?
I will be there for about 2 months (part of the time on vacation, part of the time working remotely)
I’m planning on visiting Italy this fall! I am super excited because the Renaissance was my favorite history period to study when I was a kid, and I’m also a fan of ancient history. It’d be fun to finally see the places I’ve read so much about. I am thinking of maybe also visiting Switzerland and France too. I’m currently trying to figure out the logistics of that. The stories about the hostel prices make me nervous. I don’t know why, but I can only see other comments on the main instance, and not through the instance I’m on. I found this community on feddit.de.
In the winter, though it will more likely will be at the start of 2024, I want to visit India. As a solo mid-20s woman, I have decided that I will join a group tour for the first time. I did a lot of research, read stuff online, and asked Indian friends irl, and there were a lot of mixed opinions. I figured it’s better to play it safe the first time, and that if I felt I’d be fine traveling in the country alone, I could always go back on my own. There’s so much to see there!

It’ll be for 32 days! I’m planning on spending most of the time in Italy.
Vietnam, in Oct / Nov.
i have only been to the northern half of Vietnam (Nin Bihn, Hanoi, Quang Yen, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, and Cao Bang) and enjoyed it thoroughly. someone i met who traveled there more extensively told me that she finds the southern cuisine more flavourful, the northern food is bland in comparison. as someone who was not exposed to the south, i liked northern food, found it refreshingly light.
have a wonderful trip.That’s where I’m headed, well Hanoi anyway. I’m there for three and a half weeks, with no itenary planned as yet, even a rough one. There’s a specific date about half way through my trip where I want to be somewhere peaceful and beautiful, where I can have some time to reflect on life, the universe and everything. Any recommendations? This’ll be my first time in Asia, and my first solo long haul in a non English speaking country. I’m shitting bricks a little, but also really excited.
if a ~6h travel time is alright with you, i highly recommend Ha Giang City. it felt very rural for a provincial center. when i visited there years ago, the streets were very clean, cars, motorcycles, and people were sparse.
another great thing about Ha Giang City is that it is the gateway to more remote villages if you find the city too busy. just driving through Ha Giang Province was a delight, it was my first time passing through such expansive limestone structures.
the same can be said for many places nearer Hanoi. for example Ninh Binh, outside the more touristy area, has quiet towns dotted with limestone hills which make it seem like the land equivalent of Ha Long Bay.
in Hanoi itself, the most peaceful spot i visited was the Museum of Fine Arts. i really enjoyed taking in the paintings and sculptures there (and the quiet).
it can be a little challenging to talk with locals outside Hanoi because a lot of them do not speak English but i found most of them very helpful.
