December 12, 2023, Mountain View, CA -- A team of scientists from the SETI Institute, University of California Davis and the Alaska Whale Foundation, had a close encounter with a non-human (aquatic) intelligence. The Whale-SETI team has been studying humpback whale communication systems in an effort to develop intelligence filters for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
Yeah, I could definitely see an AI tool being useful. Though, I’d imagine it’d need a variety of types of communication in it’s data sets. It’d be great to see a tool trained off of a variety of animal languages such as whales, bees, primates, etc. Then it’d need to be able to learn things like body language and cultural gestures which also serve as a form of language. The variety of communication out there is astounding.
And, I think communication between people and dogs is a great example. In addition to words, there is a lot of non-verbal communication between us and our pets. I know my dogs will pick up on me getting ready to walk them. Even if I’m not actively telling them it’s time for a walk, getting their leashes conveys that to them. And, I’m sure a lot of people can pick up on their dog’s demeanor by the wag of their tails or how their posture.
All of this could potentially be picked up and analyzed by AI. Though, I’d hope experts would review and serve as a buffer for outputs back to any NHI. I could only imagine the AI snafus that could occur otherwise.
ChatGPT “alien editon” saying the wrong person was the US President comes to mind. :)
Yeah, we need a moderater.
