I’m almost glad that the Kid wasn’t in the miniseries because that character scared me too much in the book!
The Stand has some of the best character development I’ve ever read, and the miniseries did a great job trying to show it.
neat! I’m so looking forward towards reading the book as well
I read it this year and enjoyed it so much. Isnt it great when you can finish a book and then watch the movie adaptation? I’m kinda new to Stephen king. I also read the first Dark Tower and Pet sematary. Which should I read next?
One of my all-time favorite books, the miniseries did a capable job of trying to condense a behemoth into two parts and there’s some great shots and sequences throughout from low-budget horror legend Mick Garris. It is far from perfect, but I regularly revisit it (much unlike the terrible Paramount+ adaptation) so I will likely do so again soon with info. Thanks!
I didn’t watch the Paramount one. What was bad about it?
There was some stuff that was done right, a couple good casting decisions, but the basic format of the show jumping back and forth in time was awful at developing the characters and giving you investment in their plight with there being no stakes or danger in a flashback, some of the performances have some wild scene chewing and are all over the place.
The worst part though was their conception of Las Vegas as this like gothy heavy metal land of hedonistic sex (notably, the only homosexual interactions are part of this, which just inherently feels homophobic), drugs, violence and terror. It was incredibly over the top and doesn’t fit with the tone of the new Vegas that King established at all.
