My band is now officially a houseband for a local venue. Quite exciting!

I’m also writing a book, not necessarily to be published, but it’s a fun thing to do :)

        Thank you!

Well, we play my own folkrock songs and then covers as well. We’re trying to make a chill atmosphere. We mostly want people to leave with a: “oh, that was really pleasant!”-vibe, but also mix in some humourous bits here and there to keep people entertained.

I work with elderly people, so I’m trying to make a book that explores some of the lives left unheard thorughout the decades :)

Trans-ing my gender. Parts I wish would hurry up, parts I’m still not ready for yet. Overall it’s been positive so far!

That’s amazing. I can’t even begin to comprehend the challenges you’re facing. I’m glad it’s going well.

I’m working on a project review for an oil and gas site and I’m having trouble staying focused because I’m distracted and worrying about some hip pain I’ve been dealing with. Hoping I can figure out wtf the issue is so I can get back to being more active.

My dude, I can relate to the hip pain.

I was a bush rat for a decade. Tons of shitty walking. My one hip always gave me some trouble but I was too busy to get it looked at. Finally changed jobs, and now I have a 9-5 job. It wasn’t too bad, but I figured since I’m playing catch up, I should get it looked at. Went to physio and she made it SO MUCH WORSE. I was in agony all spring. Tried CBD oil, no luck. Went for a massage just to get some temp relief and it helped. Went back 2x more and it’s way better than its ever been.

I was actually at the doctor yesterday and he referred me to an ortho, but also recommended a sports massage targeting the hips and ligaments there. Said based on where the pain is, it is likely REALLY tight and strained tendons that need help releasing so they can heal properly. Fingers crossed!

Found out about Oracle’s free VPS offering, which I’m so excited about! I’ve always wanted to learn more about system administration, and everything going on with lemmy + reddit has been kind of the perfect storm for me to experiment. I’m hoping this period of general optimism about this new platform stays for a good while longer.

I just started a new job. The team is awesome and I really enjoy it. But I can’t help to feel somewhat useless as I still don’t know the environment very well and have to ask so many questions.

      Dude, you’re doing well.

I work in a highly technical field that requires a very broad knowledge base. The first 8 mo of my new job, I felt like a clueless bumpkin.

I’ve been at it for 1.5 yrs now, and I feel less like that but it’s still a lot of learning.

Imposter syndrome gets us all at times. But hey, at least you’re asking, you’ll then know more and you’ll improve! They need to be patient with a new hire too, which it sounds like they are. Good luck!

Partially disabled, spent all day laying down until an hour ago when I took all the bar tape off my road bike, cleaned up the gunk and terrible smell, and managed to wrap one half before taking a break. If I’m lucky, the other half will go quickly soon. Then I can rest again kit out and go ride for an hour and a half. I’ll be lucky if I can get it done without my back giving up. The only place I am “normal” is on a bike setup so the thoracic damage in my back is neutral. Sitting or standing or doing much of anything sucks for me.

What I need to do to finish wiring my old truck, its a long project and I’m not gonna make any progress on it this weekend so whatever. What I want to 3d print now that I got it going. I’m wondering how my mom is doing, she was real sick last week and while doing much better still not back to 100%. What I want to do at the formula e race this weekend, part of why I’m not gonna make any progress on the truck well that and ive just stalled out on it. Should I take this lateral move into the office that might make me move back to the overnight shift but get me some office expierence that can get me out this warehouse into a job that pays better and isn’t always freezing or just stay where I’m at.

Wait what was the question again?

I’ve been fixated on small web stuff this past week. I went on some bbs boards, and joined ctrl-c.club, and so far those plus lemmy have basically perfectly fulfilled my internet social needs. I feel happy and refreshed after going online, its such a new and exciting feeling.

I need to figure out how much power Leandra (my primary server at home) is pulling, so I can determine whether or not I need to get her a more powerful PSU. Because I finally have a GPU that will let me play with some of the more recent ML cores but she won’t boot if it’s installed (which I suspect is a power issue). I /could/ throw a couple of hundred bucks at a new PSU but I want to know what’s going on first.

I also need to get around to writing the modules that will plug my weather station into InfluxDB as well as a couple of different citizen science projects. I kinda regret not going with Weewix because I sank rather a lot of time into writing my own software, and I feel kind of conflicted about it.

Is Leandra some kind of OS or Software that I don’t know or did you just name your server this?

        Let’s see…

I just got Leandra an upgraded graphics card for experimenting with AI software locally (because I don’t trust OpenAI, and there is buzz out that they’ve been compromised and somebody walked off with a bunch of user data). However, Leandra won’t boot when it’s installed. I think her power supply isn’t strong enough. Before I throw money at a new power supply I want to know just how much power she’s using, because there’s a chance that the card is bad. If she’s using so much power that the new card overtaxes the power supply, the fix is easy. If she’s not, the card might be bad.

I built a weather station a couple of months ago. I want to interface it with some citizen science projects on the Net - sending data to them to contribute to the locations covered. Because I wrote the software myself I have to figure out how to send data to each project separately. I haven’t sat down to do it yet because there is software out there already that will run my weather station, and I didn’t know it before I started writing my own. I’ve been kind of avoidant about working more on it for that reason, which is dumb to be honest.

I’ve been thinking about how to back up my VPS.

The host I have it with does have daily backups, but they cost money and I want to do this as cheaply as possible.

So far I moved the thing from ext4 to btrfs so I could do compression and deduplication to get the “on disk” size as small as I could (without killing CPU usage, of course).

And now that I have btrfs I can also take advantage of snapshots and btrfs send/receive.

My overall plan is to use my provider’s snapshotting tool every week or two (likely automatically via their API), and btrfs send things to an unused laptop at home on a more frequent basis. This way, if things do go wrong, I can immediately roll back a week (or two), after which I can “fast forward” to the latest daily(?) backup I have.

Of course I have no idea if this will actually work in practice…

I’m currently at work, but I do want to make a video game, but I need artist. I have a mostly complete game doc for ideas and what needs to be done, I can code and will learn more, just not good at art sadly. And I suppose level designers too. Making it with gzdoom, so a “boomer shooter”
