Tokyo Ghoul, Parasyte style
I haven’t watched either of those shows, and I can’t really say that it is the genre I usually consume, but wanted to mention that you might get more answers on either !anime@ani.social or !anime@lemmy.ml.
As for thrillers I have seen or heard good things about, perhaps Death Note (if you haven’t seen it yet)? I haven’t seen this one, but I have heard good things about Psycho-Pass as well which seems to have some similar themes based on the synopses.
Both are really good, Parasyte is probably one of the best horror animes available, Tokyo Ghoul has two really good seasons and then things get a bit confusing.
That’s definitely an opinion on Tokyo Ghoul. In fact, one of the opinions of all time.
That third season just wasn’t good or easy to follow.
That’s not the part I’m disagreeing with. It’s generally agreed upon, that Tokyo Ghoul is absolute trash. The first season is passable, but everything after is just not worth the time. And even that passable first season is like 5/10 at best. It’s an absolute disgrace of an adaptation seeing as the original is an 8-9/10 manga.
Ajin, Attack on Titan, Darling in the Franxx, The Promised Neverland, Steins;Gate, Death Note, Psycho Pass, Castlevania, Kill La Kill, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, Code Geass, Akame Ga Kill, Kill Bill (the actual movies), Deadman Wonderland, Durarara!!
This is a good list, I’d add:
- 91 Days - a Mafia/revenge drama
- Pluto - a blade runner-esque atompunk film noir
- Blue Eye Samurai - wandering samurai/revenge show with some thriller elements
- Dorohedoro - I’m not even sure how to describe this show, Magipunk? It’s a thriller about a guy cursed with a lizard head and missing memories
Thank you! I started watching Chainsaw man. I’ll keep this list in mind.
Psycho Pass? It’s not quite supernatural but pretty gruesome and engaging
