Cephalofair Games has just launched their new crowdfunding campaign on Backerkit.
It’s essentially three different projects bundled into the same campaign:
- The 2nd edition of Gloomhaven
- Different sets of miniatures for the enemies and summons in Gloomhaven+expansion, JotL and Frosthaven
- A new Gloomhaven themed RPG.
I’m excited. I don’t think I’ll ever play the RPG (I just don’t know who I’d ever play it with), I don’t need all those minis (except maybe the summons would be nice to have), but I’m really really looking forward to playing through Gloomhaven 2.
Maybe I won’t get as horribly and repeatedly slaughtered in this version?
Haha, who am I trying to fool :)
I think the price for Gloomhaven 2nd edition is very good. Don’t think I can justify the purchase though as I have not even finished my own 1st edition copy xD
Backerkit was lovingly hugged to death for a couple minutes after campaign launch. I think it took me like ten minutes to finalize my pledge.
I’m curious what the campaign will be like. Cephalofair don’t do crowdfunding exclusives, stretch goals or any of that FOMO bait stuff usually. So with all of the content reveals front loader it looks like it’s going to be a pretty tame campaign with only a handful live play videos along the way.
This is awesome, but honestly I’m swimming in Gloomhaven content as is. I still haven’t finished the core game, have an unopened box of The Crimson Scales to get to, and my son’s been begging me to get Frosthaven. I can’t justify buying anything else right now!
How do we feel about the value of the characters upgrade pack as it’s over half the price of the complete 2nd edition?
I wonder if/when the digital implementation will get updated to 2E. I played the OG back in the day, and there’s a benefit to the tactileness of a real board game, but the digital handling all the AI, upkeep, and rules makes it so much easier to play
The minis alone are probably going to bring in a shit ton of money. I personally preferred the colorful standees but I remember how many were clamoring for minis back then.
I could give in to my evil tendencies… I have a friend who still hasn’t played his OG Gloomhaven and who is a big fan of minis…
I agree, I think that gloomhaven managed to have that variety due to standees instead of minis, as long as they keep the minis as a deluxe upgrade I think it’s fine and more games should do it.
Indeed. ~250 would have been a much harder sell for what was effectively a “new designer”. Going for mostly standees allowed them to have a much more approachable price point. GH might not have become the breakout hit without them.
