  • This is why I do CICO. Let’s me adjust what I eat based off what I’m feeling that day… and it’s nice because ultimately it’s about eating at a deficit over a week, in my case at least… since I’m targeting 1.5 lbs/week it’s just about being at a deficit overall… so if I have a rough day I can theoretically “make up for it” throughout the rest of the week.

Of course I still need to exercise control and not just eat whatever whenever… but I love the flexibility and it’s allowed me to stay on track for 50 lbs over 6 months…

  • I mean… I’m not anti Union… have lived and worked in TX and CA… TX is as anti union as anywhere and it sucks because of it.

I’m anti corrupt unions, anti blind faith in “unions”, I’m anti overly simplistic internet bullshit rhetoric that sounds good in a vacuum but isn’t helpful in the world we live in…

But you do you Boo… nothing much our internet discourse here will accomplish other than both of us being annoyed and feeling morally superior to the other for no reason. 🍻

  • Right… since people never step in to fill a power vacuum and no matter their intentions become corrupt… because absolute power corrupts absolutely… and once you get a taste historically people want more…

Seizing the means and fantasizing about a functional democratic version of communism in the workplace is absurd…

The real goal should be to regulate the wage gap. Because the top won’t voluntarily shrink the wage gaps laws need to be in place or bargained for that set a limit to the gap between the top and bottom… i.e. the CEO can only ever make 30% more per year than the lowest paid employee in their business. That way when the business is more successful everyone is brought up. There is recognition that various roles have more or less responsibility (and should be compensated as such) but everyone in the org benefits equally when the org does better…

  • But only because there is an actual limited and finite number of parking spots in any given area… unfortunately the less specialized a position is the greater number of people there are to take it… and with 8+ billion people on the earth odds are good you can be relatively easily replaced even at higher skill level jobs…

And FTR I am not justifying the poor wages of the working class (i.e. almost everyone who isn’t a boomer or a “rich” person)… but this comparison is a little foolish and fails at making the point the OP wanted to make… we’re stuck in Capitalism. Supply and demand. There can be no more parking spaces in certain places but we’re constantly making new people…

  • I’m glad that an inability to understand nuance and have a helpful discussion wasn’t just a Reddit thing but apparently exists here as well! Reminds me why I almost exclusively lurked and avoided any posts that weren’t just talking about stuff people in the sub enjoyed… at least I’m finding out early that I need to just shut up and avoid trying to have discussions.

In response to your post, which will probably be the last engagement I have in this thread…

I put “radical” in quotes as compared to what the current status quo is (which I am not supporting FTR). We are in late stage capitalism… we are being controlled by the rich. Our government is corrupt and garbage… and to go from this to what Bernie wants is absolutely radical. Is it bad? Not generally IMHO. But is it a massive departure from where we’re at now? Yes.

As to your statement that his policies are supported by “the vast majority of Americans on both sides of the aisle”… where do you pull this data from? Because if we only had “some” shitty voters I find it hard to believe we’d be where we’re at now… but maybe I’m wrong… that just seems like one of these “sounds good, but is ultimately based on nothing real” internet takes that people like to throw around…

  • It’s sad you’re getting downvoted because this is a great point… it’s also depressing because politics is corrupt bullshit… but since that’s never going to change short of our country going full France/let them eat cake, I guess we need people that can work in the system…

I would even venture to say re: Bernie that he is actually a negative since what he proposes is too “radical” from the current status quo and it ruins any chance he has to get traction. Sadly, change won’t come over night… it’s going to take lots of little steps to get there.
