NaevaTheRat [she/her]

Despite all my rage I’m still a rat refreshing this page.

I use arch btw.

Credibly accused of being a fascist, liberal, commie, anarchist, child, boomer, pointlessly pedantic, a Russian psychological warfare operative, and db0’s sockpuppet.

Pronouns are she/her.

Vegan for the iron deficiency.

Hobart, Darwin and Canberra topped the list, while Sydney, one of Australia’s most populous cities, has come in the 150th spot, posing questions about the impacts of air pollution.

But experts have cautioned against taking the data at face value, saying the logic is “fundamentally flawed”.

However, Professor Gavin Pereira, an environmental epidemiologist at Curtin University in Perth, said the ranking of cities was “fundamentally flawed, even if the calculations are correct”.

“Firstly, air pollution events like bushfires and dust storms are common in Australia even if the air quality appears okay at other times,” he said.

“Secondly, it ignores everyone living outside the selected cities, including those in regional rural and remote areas most prone to bushfire smoke.”

  • Alcohol is a messy a.f. drug but it’s thought to work on some opiod receptors as part of its action. Unfortunately they’re our shit feels nice receptors (disgusting simplification) and exercise, or rather part of the body’s response to it, works on that too.

God hates us, so when our happy receptors are active all the time our brain turns the volume down so we continue to suffer. Removing the alcohol means the volume on the reward pathways is too low right now.

Fortunately even people who blast the fuck out of those pathways with like heroine don’t stop them from coming back to a relatively normal sensitivity and usually pretty fast. So you probably don’t have to wait long before stuff feels good again and it definitely will happen if you just grit your teeth and rawdog life for a bit.

  • Hey nice, I am not you but I wouldn’t tempt myself with a drug while quitting. I smoked at that sabotaged my efforts a few times before I quit. I’m not exactly down with the AA type always an addict thinking, but it is worth remembering that brains take to things differently and vulnerability can remain. I don’t take nicotine or coke anymore because while I’m pretty sure I would be able to use it and stop I know it would be unpleasantly hard to do so.

I drink to much atm, it got out of hand during a bad period of chronic pain and it’s been a struggle at times. Posts like this are encouraging.

  • I don’t think vegans are out there buying pets from breeders. Or at least they shouldn’t be.

We adopted two greyhounds from who were discarded from the racing industry. It’s complex, because it sort of allows the industry to launder the hideous moral cost to be people that are not vegan but think dogs are special and cute. However even with the rehoming there are still mass graves full of greyhounds that were too old or slow that didn’t get adopted, so it’s not like forcing them to execute them would make the enormously profitable sport collapse.

It would be better if there were proper shelters and reserves for everyone and we stopped forced breeding programs but there aren’t and the individuals seem to want to choose life over death.

  • I’ve not made the time to get all up in my fungals, but i know a lot more understanding is coming out. Whats the deal?

So I might be wrong here, I have no formal training in the carbon cycle and am not nor have ever been a biologist but I was under the impression that coal basically no longer can be made as it comes from a time before lignin (the stuff what makes plants woody) could be broken down by organisms. Now, barring unusual geological events, plants die and fall into the soil where the vast majority of their substance is metabolised by fungi which use it for energy emitting co2 in the process.

So if you take some area and forest it, there is now a mass of carbon bound into plant stuff, but since it reaches a steady state quickly it isn’t really sequestering any after that. This is why carbon capture is sort of a farce, as captured carbon in its ideal form is coal.
