  • How to you fix the problem, then? Anyone can set up an image generator on almost any computer. The generation methods are just applied mathmatics.

    I don’t know.

We have opened Pandora’s Box on AI and now the internet is forever massively worsened because of it. My only hope is that AI never advances past anything beyond the basics of composition so that it remains easy to spot and therefore easy to restrict from spaces celebrating real art.

AI is a tool, like a paint brush. You can create masterpieces as well as stick-figure drawings depending on how you use it.

Ah yes, because when humans do art we never add little touches that make it our own even if we are closely following the source material. Meanwhile AI only closely follows its data

Take for example this redraw of this meme:

    Source

    Vs the original:

    Source

While they appear similar you can clearly see where they differ, with the end result being much better vs if they had copied the original more faithfully. Those changes were all intentionally done, based on the artists experiences biases and even mood. When AI makes changes it does not have the same intentions because it does not have artistic intent.

Art is a foundational way of human communication. AI slop is not that, as it mimics art while losing out on all but the most superficial of its communication.

  • there should be a legal mandate for websites to sort chronologically by default

That is why I love RSS feeds, I am the one who controls how I receive the posts and there is no lock in. Only problem is that many sites lack RSS feeds. Although I do have a simple solution for that, I find who I want to follow on a site that is RSS compatible or I stop trying to follow them.
