  • There is no such thing as a secure computer. You can bury it in cement and drop it in the deepest hole in the ocean. If someone needs access to it bad enough, they will get in.

My SO says the same thing. (He’s an electronics engineer who writes the software buried inside devices.) “For every can there is a can opener.” He also rants about different attacks, the worst one apparently being a “rubber hose attack”. (I think he means people getting tortured to open up whatever it is.)

  • I’ve never had Amazon. Never had Apple anything. Never had Disney services of any kind. Dropped Google stuff years ago (though I watch Youtube videos with a bunch of anti-ad stuff my SO set up for me). I do, however, pirate like crazy.

Of course it’s easier for me. I don’t live in North America or Europe. Very easy to avoid this stuff here.

  • Much of it is, yes, ability to commit the violence. It leads to a feedback effect. Men can commit violence more easily with less harm, so they do. The act of doing it validates it so they do it again. This becomes encoded as "manly’ behaviour in society so now it’s expected. When it’s expected, it leads to more such violent expression and the feedback loop continues.

It’s really eye-opening, incidentally, to live in a country with different markers of masculinity that are culturally enforced. You don’t get a lot of wall punching here, for example. Shouting, sure. But not physical displays. Because physical displays of anger, etc. are frowned upon and get you shunned.
