The latest Firefox 127 appeared on June 11 with a modest list of changes – automatically reloading the browser when the OS reboots, closing duplicate tabs, and requiring more authentication to access stored passwords.

A change Mozilla didn’t mention in the release notes has users complaining online, though.

Users complained on Mozilla’s forums and on Reddit at the time, but it was at least possible to recombine the icons with the option in about:config – but no longer.

As you might imagine, people are not happy, although according to the official response in this complaint, it looks like the change will be reverted in Firefox 128:

According to this thread, users of Firefox on Apple iOS are finding that if you have both a main and private Firefox instances open, when the main one is closed, all the tabs in the private instance are closed too.

Slip-ups like this suggest to us that, as has long been the case, the Firefox developers lack a good understanding of how its remaining followers use it, and why they stick with it.

The below extract from the book sees how Steudtner’s alternative approach works from stepping inside a cutting-edge wind tunnel to helping inspire English Premier League football team Liverpool to past glories.

When Liverpool won the Champions League back in 2019, their manager Jürgen Klopp was left trying to uncover new ways to inspire his players and reinvigorate them after they’d already achieved the pinnacle of European football.

In his quest to give them an additional psychological edge against their domestic rivals and to avoid his star-studded squad turning stale after their continental triumph, he reached out to Sebastian Steudtner, of all people.

Much like Klopp and Liverpool, in his own quest for self-improvement, Steudtner is always looking at avenues outside surfing, often casting his eye to methods from other sports and athletes in order to achieve even the most marginal of gains.

Russian and Mexican boxers are the fighters he most admires – the manner in which they strip their lives down to the most basic terms, taking themselves to a forest hideaway or some other Spartan existence for the most simplistic of pre-fight training camps.

There was fishing in the river – he and his sister catching them with sticks, like a real-life Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn – and they would kill their own chickens for the evening meal by chopping off the animals’ heads.

Top comedian-turned-politician Micheal Usi has been sworn as Malawi’s vice-president at a ceremony held in parliament in the capital, Lilongwe. The 55-year-old replaces Saulos Chilima, who died in a plane crash earlier this month, along with eight other people.Dr Usi received a standing ovation when he spoke after his inauguration, saying he accepted the role with a mixture of sadness and gratitude. He promised to honour his predecessor’s memory and thanked President Lazarus Chakwera for believing in him as he takes up his position as vice-president in the power-sharing government.

The ‘magnetic’ Malawi vice-president who inspired hopeHis appointment has certainly left Malawians divided. Some have been sharing clips of his acting career on social media and questioning whether he is serious enough to take up such a senior role.Others however have praised President Chakwera for appointing Chilima’s party deputy and honouring the spirit of the alliance between their two parties.Dr Usi is no stranger to controversy given his acting career.

He is popularly known as “Manganya”, the name of a mischievous character he still plays in popular TV sitcom Tikuferanji. His aide told the BBC on Friday that he was filming an episode as recently as last week.He has been a staple on national radio and television for more than two decades making him one of the most recognisable local celebrities.Dr Usi has also been a passionate advocate for developing and promoting Malawi’s film industry in which it is difficult to make a living. In fact, he first funded his acting career by working as a hospital clinician.

He has a qualification in clinical medicine - most patients in Malawi will be seen by a clinician as the country has a shortage of doctors. This fuelled his passion to improve the lot of poor communities and for many years he worked at Adventist Development and Relief Agency (Adra), a Christian non-governmental organisation. He served there in various capacities, including heading the organisation as its country director - and through him Adra funded various soaps on radio and TV that also aimed to educate people about HIV and other social issues. The new vice-president, who is married with two daughters, also holds a PhD in youth development from the University of Bedfordshire in the UK.Despite his position at Adra, his acting career never took a backseat - and he was participating in various productions, mostly in the local Chichewa language.Such was his popularity as a comedian that when he founded a political movement around seven years ago - many people just thought it was a prank. This is because he had a reputation as a trickster - his most famous ruse was fooling people into believing that he had been a good boxer at high school and was looking to return to the ring.He organised a non-title bout against a leading local boxer.

His movement was called Odya zake alibe Mulandu, which loosely translates as “he who does not take what belongs to others but only eats what’s his is a free man".It soon became part of a newly formed political party, the UTM, headed by Dr Chilima. This was ahead of the 2019 elections - and Dr Usi and Dr Chilima started addressing rallies together. Both being highly eloquent speakers, their meetings often drew huge crowds and in February 2019, Chilima named his new political associate as his running mate for the vote.

The pair came third, but the results were then nullified by the high court because of irregularities. In fresh elections that were held in 2020, the UTM joined eight other opposition political parties to form an electoral alliance, which picked Dr Chakwera as presidential candidate with Dr Chilima as the running mate, which went on to victory.Dr Usi, was by this stage Chilima’s deputy and was named in cabinet as minister of tourism, culture and wildlife, a position he held between July 2020 and February 2023.He later moved to become the minister of natural resources and climate change, his role until his elevation to vice-president.Some senior members of the UTM were notable by their absence at his inauguration on Friday - signalling division in the party over his appointment.Dr Usi did not evade the issue at his swearing-in, promising to get the party together so that they could heal and honour the legacy of Chilima, who was regarded as a magnetic politician with a special connection with people, especially the youth.

A pet donkey that escaped his owners five years ago in California has been found “living his best life” with a herd of wild elk.Terrie and Dave Drewry, of Auburn, are convinced the animal, filmed by a hiker earlier in June, is their pet “Diesel”.The couple say they are relieved the animal is safe - and have decided to let him wander free with a new family as a “wild burro” .Diesel was spooked and took off during a hiking trip with Mr Drewry near Clear Lake, California in 2019.Weeks of volunteer searches proved fruitless, and a trail camera image a few months later was the last time he was seen.

“We finally kind of gave up,” Mrs Drewry told BBC’s news partner, CBS.

Then hiker Max Fennell spotted the herd earlier this month, describing the donkey as “happy and healthy”, and posted his film on social media.

He’s healthy, and it was just a relief," Mrs Drewry said. The elk herd is a few miles away from where Diesel first went missing and in an area where there are no wild donkeys.

“Two completely different creatures, but they learn to get along and be each other’s family,” Mrs Drewry said. The Drewrys have adopted new donkeys since Diesel’s disappearance and do not plan on trying to capture their missing pet.

“To catch him would be next to impossible,” Mrs Drewry said.

Macaque monkeys got on better with others in their social groups after a devastating hurricane, according to researchers.Researchers studied the impacts of a hurricane on a population of Rhesus macaques on an island off Puerto Rico.Temperatures are often around 40C so shade is a precious resource for macaques, since tree cover is still far below pre-hurricane levels.Macaques, who are known for being aggressive and competitive, have become more tolerant of one another to get access to scarce shade.

“It’s extremely hot, it’s not just uncomfortable, but actually dangerous for one’s health if you don’t manage to lower your body temperature,” said Dr Camille Testard, a neuroscience research fellow at Harvard.

The study, which was led by the universities of Pennsylvania and Exeter and published in the journal Science, found that storm damage changed the evolutionary benefits of sharing shade and tolerating others.

"We expected that after the disaster in a more competitive landscape with less shade resources, you would have perhaps more aggression.

We found the opposite pattern," said Dr Testard.Using data collected before and after the hurricane, the researchers examined the strength and number of social ties among macaques.Whether it’s food or shade, macaques aren’t known for being very good at sharing resources.Due to the increased tolerance, more macaques were able to access scarce shade, which is crucial to their survival.

What really seems to be important, are the risks of not living, heat, stress and getting access to shade," said Professor Lauren Brent, from the University of Exeter.Researchers found that the macaques’ increased tolerance spilled over into other aspects of their daily lives.Macaques that had been sharing shade were also spending time together in the mornings, before the heat forced them to seek shade. In effect, the hurricane changed the rules of the game in the monkeys’ society.

Waterborne diseases have “put over 10,000 people in hospital” since 2019, Labour said, as both Sir Keir Starmer’s party and the Liberal Democrats ramped up attacks on the “Conservative sewage scandal”.

“They just folded their arms and looked the other way while water companies pumped a tidal wave of raw sewage into our rivers, lakes and seas, putting the nation’s health at risk.

“We will give the regulator tough new powers to make law-breaking water bosses face criminal charges and ban the payment of their multimillion pound bonuses until they clean up their toxic filth.”

Environmental activist Feargal Sharkey, who is backing Labour’s plans, told the PA news agency that “people are utterly fed up, outraged and despondent about the state of rivers and seas”, with parents worried about taking their children to the beach this summer.

Meanwhile, the Lib Dems set out a plan to save chalk streams, which the party’s analysis suggested suffered nearly 49,000 hours worth of sewage dumping in 2023 – more than double the previous year.

Sir Ed Davey’s party repeated its proposal to launch a public consultation within the first 100 days of the next government which could see rivers and lakes awarded a new Blue Flag status to protect them from sewage dumping.

Regarding what was “getting so extreme,” Fitzpatrick said, “the imagery that you see all month with parades and getting to the point of nakedness and things with people walking down the street, I can’t get behind that.”

On Thursday night, the bar’s Facebook page also shared an image of a child vomiting rainbow with the caption “Protect the children,” invoking a decades-old false moral panic that LGBTQ people are dangerous to children — rhetoric increasingly weaponized by the right in recent years.

Fitzpatrick told KTVB that he’s received criticism online, including a number of comments stating that his monthlong heterosexuality celebration is homophobic.

The bar’s celebration is among a number of incidents within the first week of Pride month that appear to mark a rising amount of backlash compared to past years.

A 53-year-old man is dead after the plane he was piloting crashed into a field north of Duck Mountain Provincial Park, Manitoba RCMP say.

Officers were called Thursday at about 9:30 p.m. to the crash site north of Minitonas, about 35 kilometres northeast of Swan River, according to a news release on Friday afternoon.

RCMP and emergency services found a small single-engine airplane in a field east of Provincial Road 268, also called Lenswood Highway.

The 53-year-old found inside, who was the lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said.

In a release sent Friday evening, the federal Transportation Safety Board said it will be sending a team of investigators to Swan River to look into the cause of the crash, which it said involved a Stinson 108-3 aircraft.

The DNCC has also hired full-time staff members specifically focused on influencer engagement, and will have volunteers on-site to offer creator support.

Cayana Mackey-Nance, the convention’s director of digital strategy, framed the plan as “leveling the playing field between content creators and traditional media, and ensuring that more Americans than ever before are able to experience and engage with this critical part of our Democratic process.”

“We are meeting Americans where they are and making sure they know what’s on the line in November, no matter how or where they see their content,” said Matt Hill, the convention committee’s senior director of communications.

At United Center, the credentialed creators will be able to access work and lounge spaces, including the penthouse, lower bowl, media row and Studio24, the convention’s in-house studios.

Influencers who attended the walkthrough asked committee staff if their credentials would be pulled if they posted content from the convention that is critical of Biden.

Taken together, the measures have signaled the ambition of the governor and the Republican-led Legislature to be at the forefront of a growing national movement to create and interpret laws according to a particular conservative Christian worldview.

When Mr. Landry, who previously served two terms as the state attorney general, won the governorship last fall, it was widely expected that Louisiana would veer to the right.

As attorney general, Mr. Landry had positioned himself as a fierce champion of conservative causes, defending the state’s ban on abortions and challenging Mr. Edwards’s authority to order businesses, schools and churches to close during the coronavirus pandemic.

Heather L. Weaver, a senior staff attorney with the Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief at the American Civil Liberties Union, said she would not be surprised if next year’s state legislative sessions took up a “huge influx” of bills rooted in conservative Christian ideas.

In Arizona, during the fight over an abortion ban from 1864, the speaker of the House, Ben Toma, told The New York Times in April that “all of our laws are actually based on, what, the Ten Commandments and the Book of Genesis, which are thousands of years ago.”

“This is all born of the leftist culture war tearing down the fabric of the country, and we are saying, ‘Enough,’” said Jason Rapert, founder of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers and a former state senator in Arkansas.

Lying in the sun, on the Israel-Gaza border, just miles from starving Palestinian families, there are hundreds of pallets of food – from packets of rice to bunches of bananas.Although for the past week Israel’s military has been observing a daytime pause in fighting on a key stretch of road just beyond the main Kerem Shalom crossing point, humanitarian agencies say they are still struggling to get vital aid into southern Gaza. They blame growing lawlessness for making it too dangerous to pick up and move goods.“The looting has become quite profound,” says Georgios Petropoulos, head of the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Gaza.

He estimates that last Tuesday, three-quarters of the goods on board lorries entering from the crossing were stolen.UN officials say the vehicles are systematically attacked and stopped by armed gangs, particularly those smuggling cigarettes, which are sold on the black market in Gaza for exorbitant amounts.

These came about as a result of South Africa’s case alleging that Israel was violating the Genocide Convention of 1948, an accusation it strongly denies. The UN and relief groups rebut claims that they are understaffed or inefficient, pointing to the difficulties of operating in an active war zone.

At the same time, aid organisations lost access to important storage and distribution centres.Ever since Israeli forces took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing, Egypt has prohibited its use, saying it is no longer safe for humanitarian work.

However, a lot of items they bring in are unaffordable for most Gazans.Israel has opened up three other crossings into Gaza, which all provide aid to the northern part of the strip, where the UN has warned of the highest risk of famine.International airdrops have now largely stopped but the maritime corridor from Cyprus began to operate again on Thursday.

“It’s pretty clear there’s a problem and if it were only logistical, it could be solved,” he suggests.“We have to find a system that works and is based on good faith and that ultimately assumes some trust towards the United Nations,” says Georgios Petropoulos from OCHA.Back in Khan Younis, men scrambling to buy the basics for their families express their frustration, feeling trapped and exhausted.“There is no situation more difficult than this,” says Mahmoud al-Biss.

Indeed, this sentiment is shared widely among the upper echelon of Trumpland and the MAGAfied Republican Party, with various officials and conservatives with a direct line to the former president insisting that so-called “moderates” or alleged “establishment” types will be tamed or purged, if Trump retakes power next year.

Trump’s outbursts that were once shot down by fellow senior administration officials — including ones about invading and bombing Mexico — are now so thoroughly accepted as reasonable positions in the mainstream of the GOP that there are entire legislative and nonprofit apparatuses pushing the idea.

The list runs profusely long, but it includes criminally probing and possibly imprisoning political enemies and the prosecutors who’ve gone after him; unleashing troops on Democratic-controlled cities whenever he wants; cracking down on legal and illegal immigration on a draconian, unprecedented scale; further solidifying his anti-democratic lies about the 2020 election into policy and party dogma; insulating himself from his own array of indictments; and turning the Department of Justice and other nominally independent organs of the U.S. government into his own personal protection racket.

Those involved with diligently crafting these legal and policy blueprints — including at an array of conservative think tanks aligned with Trump — will often brief the former president and provide regular updates and ideas for his campaign.

Numerous sources with direct knowledge of the situation say it is widely expected in Trumpworld that if the ex-president wins back the White House, hard-right conservatives in the vein of Stephen Miller and Mike Davis will be handed positions of considerable power and influence.

Davis, a prolific tweeter, has threatened to indict, detain, denaturalize, and deport a handful of Trump critics with whom he argues on Twitter, including former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan and Tim Miller, a former GOP operative and now a journalist at The Bulwark.

In an interview with the BBC’s Nick Robinson, Mr Farage was challenged over his judgement and past statements, including when he named Russian President Vladimir Putin as the world leader he most admired in 2014.

“I said I disliked him as a person, but admired him as a political operator because he’s managed to take control of running Russia,” Mr Farage said.He was then pressed over a social media post in February 2022, when he claimed the Russian invasion of Ukraine was “a consequence of EU and Nato expansion”.

Also responding to Mr Farage’s claim was former Nato Secretary General Lord George Robertson, who accused him of “parroting the Kremlin Line” and “producing new excuses for the brutal, unprovoked attack”.

Having played through its entirety last week for my review, though, I can confidently say that it’s not unfair, as every foe possesses learnable movesets with consistent, readable telegraphing (the base game actually had a few problems with this).

While Shadow of the Erdtree is home to some of FromSoftware’s toughest ever boss fights, finally taking them down after hours of patient perseverance led to some of the highest highs I’ve ever felt playing a game.

I couldn’t help but loudly cheer despite the fact it was 1:30 in the morning (sorry, neighbors) when I finally beat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight — the first or second boss you’re likely to encounter — in a (self-imposed) duel with no summons.

Shadow of the Erdtree takes what the base game did and does it better, cutting away most of its formulaic side content like simple mines and catacombs and giving its players a denser world with more bespoke and original things to find.

Neither pillar of Elden Ring’s gameplay would give me the satisfaction they do if the experience was designed to be easier or to hold my hand, so I’m in full agreement with Miyazaki’s comments.

In fact, that’s a big part of why the Land of Shadow is so enjoyable to explore — new weapons, armors, spells, talismans, Spirit Ashes, and more are scattered all throughout the DLC’s various zones, with particularly special items often located within or at the end of side dungeons.

But in 2022, the company released the splendid, imperious Elden Ring, a collaboration with fantasy writer George RR Martin that is not only Miyazaki’s masterpiece but also by far his most popular work: to date it has sold 25m copies.

“Elden Ring was in a league of its own in terms of the success and critical acclaim that it has seen, but what we try to do as a company is never assume that will happen again with our future games,” he tells me in an interview in Los Angeles.

All of FromSoftware’s games are notoriously challenging, requiring uncommon reserves of grit, determination and willingness from their players – and Shadow of the Erdtree may well be the most difficult yet, putting even those with 100 hours of experience in the Lands Between on the back foot.

But it rewards persistence beautifully, with its intricate, fascinatingly opaque story and memorable fights against formidable beings, from dragons embellished in ghostly fronds to giant walking baskets of human cinders.

Quiet and soft-spoken, his eyes fixed mostly on the carpet, he was uncomfortable being the centre of attention; he is much more confident now, comfortable talking about both business and game design.

In my first interview with Miyazaki, over email back in 2010, he told me about the origin of Demon’s Souls’ unusual multiplayer, wherein players can summon anonymous helpers to help them through a particularly horrible area or boss encounter.

Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump, appeared somewhat skeptical of their long-shot arguments, which join a long list of motions to dismiss the case.

But she also questioned whether Attorney General Merrick Garland has oversight of the case, and took the unusual move of allowing nonparties who support Trump to argue in front of her.

Cannon appeared to cast doubt on that argument, telling attorneys that judges in a similar case involving Robert Mueller did a “fairly comprehensive review.”

It’s not unusual for attorneys to throw whatever they can at trying to dismiss the charges against their clients, but judges rarely hold hearings on them — and almost never invite people who aren’t involved with the case to argue on a defendant’s behalf in an open court.

The former president faces 40 separate charges stemming from allegations that he withheld hundreds of classified documents after leaving the White House for his private Mar-a-Lago compound in Florida, then conspired to obstruct government attempts to retrieve them.

Senate Finance Committee Democrats met Thursday to discuss President Donald Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, portions of which expire in 2025.

Pressure is already mounting from the party’s left flank to insist on sharp increases in the corporate tax rate and on the highest individual earners — and not to agree to any compromise with Republicans otherwise.

In the House, some top lawmakers are reevaluating past tax-and-spending bills that prioritized broad short-term investments that have since expired, demanding instead that Democrats focus on bringing in more revenue from major corporations and the rich that can permanently fund a limited number of high-impact social programs.

Trump, meanwhile, told business leaders this month that he hopes to cut corporate taxes to 20 percent, according to two people familiar with his remarks who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a private meeting.

In the Senate, their odds are worse, but recent polls show vulnerable Democratic incumbents in Ohio, Montana, Pennsylvania, Nevada and a challenger in Arizona outperforming expectations.

“There simply is no reason we can look at our economy right now and justify tax cuts for millionaires,” Daniel Hornung, deputy director of the White House National Economic Council, said Monday at the left-leaning Washington Center for Equitable Growth.

Barcelona, a top Spanish holiday destination, has announced it will bar apartment rentals to tourists by 2028, an unexpectedly drastic move as it seeks to rein in soaring housing costs and make the city livable for residents.

The city’s leftist mayor, Jaume Collboni, said on Friday that by November 2028, Barcelona would scrap the licences of the 10,101 apartments currently approved as short-term rentals.

National governments relish the economic benefits of tourism – Spain ranks among the top-three most visited countries in the world – but with local residents priced out in some places, gentrification and owner preference for lucrative tourist rentals are increasingly a hot topic across Europe.

Barcelona’s local government said in a statement it would maintain its “strong” inspection regime to detect potential illegal tourist apartments once the ban came into force.

But that has not prevented the number of visitors to the city – known for its Belle Epoque architecture, museums and beaches – from continuing to increase, especially after Covid pandemic travel restrictions were lifted.

The rally will come on the heels of other similar demonstrations held in recent months in other Spanish tourism hotspots such as the Canary Islands and Palma de Mallorca.

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, announced on Friday on his Truth Social platform that O’Brien had accepted his invitation to speak at the convention and that he was looking forward to seeing him represent the Teamsters.

The Teamsters spokesperson said O’Brien had made an identical request to appear at the Democratic national convention in Chicago the following month.

O’Brien has invited Biden, Trump and the independent presidential candidates Robert F Kennedy Jr and Cornel West to speak to his group.

O’Brien’s appearance at the Republican national convention would challenge Biden’s historic alliance with organized labor and threatens to undercut his claim that he is the most pro-union president in US history.

Biden kicked off his re-election campaign last June at a union-backed rally, and has since been endorsed by the United Auto Workers (UAW) after he walked the picket line with union president Shawn Fain during its strike against America’s three biggest car manufacturers.
