That doesn’t entitle someone to their time and effort, though.

This is the right attitude towards piracy. Pirate it first, then pay if you feel it was worth it.
It’s not. At least not the one that I have. That’s why I’m asking.
So, just to be clear, you can plug in the Steam Deck into the Dock and it shows up on the display right away without having to power up/down, plug/unplug, or press any button combos to reset controllers or put it into storage mode? Do you plug it in powered on or off? Can you hot-plug while a game is running or no?
I expected it to work more like the Switch where you plug it in and it switches displays but maybe my expectations are too high?
I can’t even get the Dock to acknowledge that there’s a firmware update despite Valve support saying there are at least 2 newer versions. It has done 1 update in the time that I’ve owned it and no combination of their suggested unplu/plug/restart cycle causes it to start an update.
It never connects on the first try when plugged into the Deck. I always have to plug/unplug the Power, USB, and HDMI cables to get it to switch over. This has been tried with multiple displays, multiple HDMI cables, and with Steam support. If you look on the Steam Community forums, this seems to be a common issue with some of the early Docks and Valve, for whatever reason, has no answers. I finally got them to replace it after nearly a year and only after the warranty is over so I have no idea if it was a defect or something else. Both Docks that we ordered have the same issues, though.
Have they fixed the damn Dock yet?
Voyager. It shows actual usernames and not display names. You’re seeing my display name, not my username.
You know… I totally forgot that I set that as my display name. No offense taken, obviously. I use a third-party Lemmy client so it never shows me that. 🤷♂️
Huh?
Used or owned? I own one and bought several for my company and they’re not useless at all. They’re just limited in the AR/VR experiences you can do right now. As a computer, productivity, and production device, it’s far from useless.
Hah. I have to have my volume set to multiples of 8 because I got so used to doing bit conversions and using systems where I octets are used. Even DooM and the old DooM editors used multiples of 8 for things like floor heights and texture sizes.
No, but it’s commercial production. We do 3D video production.
Yes and yes. Currently I use Moon Player and that supports all the major formats - SBS (both full and half), OU (both full and half), 360 and 180 immersive, and fisheye videos too. It supports SMB shares through the Apple Files app, DLNA support, and work-in-progress YouTube support.
Nah. We have those too and I used to like them just fine (a few different chains, including Alamo) but not enough to excuse the servers doing the duck-server squat in front of you every 5 minutes.
Or maybe the issue is that no one wants to go to the theatre anymore and both of these movies will perform just fine on streaming services. My local AMC theatre is dirty, sticky, and oily everywhere. None of the employees give a flying fuck and the management obviously just wants to squeeze as much money out of the operation as possible for the least amount of care and concern. People still talk and are generally annoying during movies in theatres. There’s no movie, Furiosa or otherwise, that I would prefer to see in a theatre anymore.
None of the people that own one that I know and none of the ones that we bought for our company use have had this issue. I’m convinced it’s from people setting it down on the front glass instead of using the provided cover.
I love how everyone that’s answering has all these hot takes and doesn’t own one when you specifically asked for answers from owners…
I have one. It’s awesome. The screen mirroring from Macs alone is worth it. The weight isn’t as bad as people claim but it is notable. Future versions will be better just by virtue of being lighter. I don’t use mine every day for productivity but I watch a lot of movies on it (especially 3D content) and it’s way better than watching on those old 3D TVs with the glasses. I use it mostly for recording spatial video for clients and we’re planning on buying more spatial cameras because of the success of that.
Gen 2 upgrades for me? Just keep making the battery life longer and keep making it lighter and slimmer, just like the evolution of iPhones and whatnot. Also, probably just a software update but a few of our team have one and it would be nice to share immersive environments/apps. Everyone is siloed in their own view currently.
Yes, and, also unfortunately, people here will bend over backwards to justify it.
