No one remotely serious is advocating children be given gender affirming medication without professional oversight. I’m sorry that that person tried to force you into a gender identity, we should be moving to a world where we can try different identities to see what fits us best and I’m happy that you were able to find your gender identity. But the idea that you trying out different pronouns on Discord is remotely comparable to teenager who was in GIDS is a dangerous conflation. To get on hormone therapy on GIDS (before it was scrapped) you had to show consistent signs of distress.

Maybe they are neurodivergent and feel like they don’t fit in.

I’m going to push back on the idea that established institutions couldn’t have stopped Trump, because they absolutely could have. They just chose not to, because doing so would have required them to present a compelling narrative. As you say, neoliberal order is internally flawed and therefore the narrative of institution centrists, that of the systems in place are fine in principle, that any failures are a failure of implementation, that there is no need to scrutinise the ideology that we’ve built our society around, is deeply uncompelling to anyone actually subject to that system. There are two responses to such a realisation, you could either scrutinise the structures of our society and try to fix them, or you could turn the cannibalisation of what good is left of society into such a spectacle that there is no room for that scrutiny. Here in the UK we watched just capable established powers are in mobilising resistance to the first with Jeremy Corbyn, and just how unwilling they are to do the same to the second with rolling out of the red carpet and complete capitulation to the narratives of fascist Nigel Farage. As they say, fascism is capitalism in decay and heaven forbid you dream of anything but rot.

You can’t change your username, but you have a setting called ‘Display name’ which can be changed and will be what shows up in most places, e.g. my username is flamingos but my display name is flamingos-cant which is the name you see.

Requiring having you’re gender identity display in your bio/display name would make it too easy to glean by potential abusers and thus make this platform unsafe for vulnerable trans people.

I don’t think I’ve ever been in a situation where nslookup was available but dig wasn’t. On Fedora, they’re in the same package.
