  • Howdy might be tough to get more activity on, unless it’s purpose expands or it becomes a rule to post there upon making an account (which people should do anyway, it’s fun).

One idea I had is to make it a space for “introductions and updates” basically a place to introduce yourself OR toot your own horn and brag about something cool you did or whatever. A space to talk about yourself.

For some reason, my brain went to DIY HRT when you said that, btw.

Why not encourage DIY HRT posts? Would be perfect for talking about recipes and such. If they try to restrict HRT, would be cool to lay (more of) the ground work for underground networks that make the stuff.

/c/creepy also has a ton of potential in my opinion. Could expand to cover horror in various media as well as stuff like true crime, occult, paranormal, etc.

  • Starting a new life in a new place and it’s going better than expected. Kindly issue is that I’m scared something will happen to sabotage it, like it’s too good to be true, or something I don’t really deserve. I guess there’s not much else I can do besides try to stop catastrophizing and make the best of it while I can.

Anyways, I know it’s been a stressful time for everyone with the elections and the struggle sessions on the site haven’t helped much. How’s everyone holding up?

Also on the topic of the election outcome, we had a good discussion in tracha (which you should all join btw, link in sidebar) about options for trans people in the US wanting to leave. I believe Canada lets in USians for up to 6 months with just a birth certificate and photo ID, which could be useful.

Anyone else have any good knowledge or strategies they might want to share for queer people who feel under threat?

  • Gonna add my thoughts here on this here.

Yes, it’s true that an online forum isn’t really suitable for organizing a revolutionary vanguard, but this site does serve some very important purposes, two of which in particular relate to this change:

    1. Mental health. Nobody here is a qualified mental health councilor either, but the discussions here can impact mental health in both positive and negative ways. I feel like mental health is a pretty critical roadblock for a lot of people on the left, myself included, so making this a priority is a good thing imo.

    2. Education. I’ve learned a ton reading comments, watching or reading recommendations, and interacting with people here. I’m sure you all have as well, and I don’t think it should take much to convince most of you how important this is.

So with this in mind, I feel like this change aims to help with both of those points outlined. I totally get that a lot of the low-effort dunk posts are an attempt to blow off steam, but is it really the best way to do that? It seems to just lead to people getting more and more angry with no aim or resolution. Also, are these posts informative? Typically they are not. I don’t see steering the comms away from the present state towards something more useful as an attempt to stop people from blowing off steam, but rather an attempt to just make it a little more productive and healthy.

Hopefully that all isn’t just rambling and makes at least some sense. I’m slipping into eepy princess mode and not sure if my brain is functioning at normal capacity.
