Oof. I feel like it’s my generation’s fault somehow, but I don’t think we’re old enough to have kids that are that old. Maybe it was gen X? I see this so much from my coworkers. I could never. I’d rather do without or just steal if I really need something. Credit like that is a trap. I learned that from growing up poor. Omg i just tried 24.04 in a vm for testing. I really hate the direction they’re taking gnome. I know they’re trying this minimalist thing, but it’s horrendous. I’ve been gone for a few releases, and this is the first time I’ve used Ubuntu and thought “this is garbage”. Like it’s become so dumbed down.

Just try to live my life like I did during all the bad presidents I’ve had over my life. I grew up protesting against George Bush Jr and my friends still died in Iraq. now I just try to live my best life, and love and help protect others. I’ve always been lower class and on the outside of middle class suburban America, so I’m used to just going about my life, no matter what’s taboo, or illegal at the time. Hell, DnD was the devil when I was growing up and I still played it. I still smoked weed when it was illegal, and I’ll still love a man even if they say I can’t.

I wasn’t talking about this exact instance. Obviously the quality of links someplace like Lemmy are going to be better than someplace like Facebook.

It doesn’t matter, the majority of people won’t click on that in the article. It’s better to just link the paper than some other writer’s opinion/conclusion on the paper. That’s another problem we have, we read other people’s interpretation of data instead of reading it ourselves, understanding it, and coming to our own conclusion.

But that also doesn’t solve the problem of quality of the research. Just because a paper has been written, doesn’t make it valid if the study is so small or methods are sketchy, its conclusions are useless.

That’s the problem with social media. It enables misinformation via omission. Like in the instance of “studies”. Rarely are sample size or controls shared, or the process nor are the sponsors of the “study”.

I’m going to stop before I start ranting about my pet peeve about how untested theories are shared on social media as fact and has ruined and dumbed down our consumption of science news and information.

I mean he’s kinda right if we don’t just commit to fully helping Ukraine instead of waffling with every budget, bill, and election.

But him saying that is a good way to motivate stubborn Americans, so he can keep on saying it. It’ll get us going.
