Robert Beltran has far more professionalism than me. If I had been in his shoes and learned about Jamake Highwater’s real background, I’d have walked off set and not come back.

Was it an actual hypersonic guided missile, or a regular ballistic missile on its hypersonic terminal approach?
This is straight-up Nuremberg-speech shit.
I don’t know what event (whether real or false-flag) will happen, but I think that it will be used as an excuse for an information-control crackdown well beyond what we’ve seen so far. The American political establishment has been freaking out about middle east news not being under their control.
Moon is pretty good. Definitely one of those “go in blind, don’t even watch the trailer” movies.
Maybe “Beyond the Black Rainbow” could qualify?
If you think that’s ghoulish, wait til you hear about the Misery Index.
The existence of subspace radio implies the existence of domspace radio.
I haven’t seen an episode of Star Trek Voyager since my teens when it first aired. I didn’t even watch the last few seasons. And I’ve just started a start-to-finish rewatch of the whole series. No fast forwarding, no skipping. I’m up to “Phage”. I’m regretting this experiment already. This show is so god damned dumb.
But Kate Mulgrew is doing her fucking best to salvage the shit writing. I love that woman. She is a true professional. She commits fully no matter how dumb the story.
Same with Jeri Ryan. She put up with a lot of bullshit on that set. The ridiculous outfits were only the start of the abuse. But she still put in the effort. I really hate the new Picard series but I do think it’s nice to see her in a Star Trek role where she’s wearing normal clothes and actually getting to show off her genuine acting talents. It’s always been wild to me that this TV show may be responsible for getting Obama into high office.
Update, I can’t continue, this is so much dumber than I remembered. It’s actually painful.
if i were to soft reboot star trek’s tech and sci-fi i would change it to the subspace wormhole system. basically a micro warp drive that stretches space and lets you step through
Something like that was even in an episode of TNG, “The High Ground”. The handwavey “why it’s not used elsewhere” excuse was that it’s harmful to living tissue.
Good episode too, despite the script having quite a few “end of history” brainworms. I know some people complain that it’s a little too on-the-nose regarding political terrorism but sometimes an on-the-nose script is exactly what’s called for. And the main antagonist has that fantastic line “The difference between generals and terrorists, Doctor, is only the difference between winners and losers.”
Chinese government officials must not be able to believe their luck. Normally, crippling a potential adversarial nation’s supply chain requires things like carpet bombing of factories. But their major geopolitical rival is doing it voluntarily to themselves.
They’re using difference definitions of “people” depending on dogwhistle context.

across-the-board plan to fully mobilize the country
Dear Canadian government: if I get drafted, lots of really expensive military equipment might start mysteriously failing at unfortunate times. Such as brake lines on officers’ vehicles. I’m not saying I’d claim responsibility for such unfortunate accidents. There’s lots of clumsy people. Could be anyone that’s mentally distracted by the stress of the whole situation which in turn leads to carelessness and neglect because their mind isn’t on their job. Accidents happen sometimes, y’know? Maybe accidents are less likely to happen when the only people in the military are the people who genuinely want to be there.
I’ve never been able to understand how Hamas is able to use their tunnel system, given that they have to fit their massive steel balls in them.
Judging from Helene’s projected path, I think it should have been named Sherman instead.
The Oka Crisis ought to be a general megathread someday. The super-simplified version is that the First Nations protesters were brutalized by basically everyone who wasn’t First Nations themselves, all so that some wealthy white people could build a golf course and condos on their land. The provincial and federal governments actually called in the military to drive the protesters out. One big brave soldier felt so threatened by a 14-year-old girl who was carrying her 4-year-old sister that he felt the need to bayonet her, nearly killing her.
