I’ve always loved this holiday. Never really any of the others. Why? Because on this day, we are supposed to celebrate freedom. Freedom we don’t actually have. But today, we do. Millions of us set off illegal fireworks to celebrate this day. And on this day, they can’t stop us. Because there is too many of us. That’s why I used to like this holiday so much.
But… 2021, and now 2022. There’s such a drastic decline in the illegal fireworks. It’s maybe 5% as much as it was just 2 years ago.
We no longer even have the freedom (or money) to celebrate the idea of freedom that we wish we had. Very depressing.

I actually saw announcements that fireworks are illegal within the city limits! on my hometown’s police page.
Was infuriating.
