Interpretation that sound is sentience is a super duper big jump. Plants do not have brains, nervous systems or nerve endings in which to feel pain or procress the world around them. Humans and animals react the same to pain by bleeding, fleeing or attacking the source. Making it a reasonable assumption that pigs dislike pain as much as I do, and since I know it is wrong to harm other humans for my own pleasure, I know it is wrong to harm animals for my pleasure of the taste of their bodies.

Perhaps plants are secretly aware in some way that we can no detect. But it’s absolute intellectual dishonesty to compare a pigs awareness of the world to that of grass.

Furthermore, animals eat way more plants than the calories people get from eating animals. So, even if we hypothetically pretend like we know that plants suffer, it is still much more net suffering than if we just eat the plants directly.

In my opinion, so much worse than an early death is the life of suffering that is generally imposed on animals in the farming industry. So, really, it isn’t just the pain of dying for the tasty 30-minute happy meal, it is a life of horrific suffering. Quite frankly, there are now alternatives that are every bit as delicious that don’t come along with a meter-long list of drugs specifically designed to increase the profits of the billionaires that trick average people into munching on their hot dogs.
