The Biden administration has been able to maintain a low profile by spreading arms provision to Israel across more than 100 smaller munitions sales — allowing the president to posture as a peacekeeper while US weapons wipe Gaza off the map.
Great! Now just ban weapons exports to Israel effective immediately, as a demonstration of intent.

While the bourgeoisie are of course the ruling class, and this includes power over the state, the mechanisms they use allow for someone like Biden to easily do what I mentioned. His rabid Zionism is a major factor in how this is playing out. Biden the rabid Zionist is in office because of the bourgeoisie, as an example for how they exert power. But he could withhold much from the Israeli project and only a minority of the ruling class would whine about it - those with major investments in Israel.
That’s why he’s the president.

If you’re president and the bourgeoisie ask you to support a genocide, the bare minimum response is to refuse and dare them to JFK you. Even if Biden was personally opposed to this (and he isn’t), he’d get no credit for spinelessly caving.

People who spent the last week passionately arguing that Joe doesn’t have to listen to do anything, because everything is fine, will now flip to saying that we should be happy because Joe finally did something.
And that we should just accept this one win, go home, and stop fighting everything else til Nov 12th

I’ve been trying to imagine why Tired Old Joe suddenly is calling for a ceasefire. My wild guess is that he’s worried that an invasion of Rafah would be butchery and a bloodbath so bad that the aftermath could continue to election day and he might have totally fucked himself out of any chance for a second term.
Definitely the optics of white aid workers being killed by the IOF forcing him to do something.
