    Eh.

Even if he goes to jail, the max for his convictions is like 4 years- and they’ll probably be served concurrently.

But it’s very rare for these kinds of crimes to elicit jail time to begin with, and let’s be honest, they’re gonna put on the kid gloves to avoid looking political.

True, but his constant violations of gag orders and other examples of contempt (both in the colloquial and legal sense of the word) has made probation pretty much out of the question, even WITH the kid gloves.

It’s a moot question if he wins in November (which is unfortunately looking likely right now) though, since the appeals process won’t be done by then and he and his fascist sycophants will find a way to give him the power to pardon himself for state crimes.

This is a state court. That being said, the crimes are also class E white collar felonies, which almost always elicit a concurrent sentence and little to no time in an actual prison. That being said, it’s at the judge’s discretion and he is allowed to consider trump’s behavior throughout the duration of the trial and after as factors in his sentencing. I’m not saying the judge will give him 136 years in prison (but that would be hilarious), I think it’ll probably be more like 4 years concurrent on house arrest or something like that.

He’s also going to be considering “pillar of the community” bullshit, as well as the whole “will me giving what he deserves give justification for overturning my sentencing” bullshit.

Most likely, Merchan will give the precisely normal sentence- which doesn’t include jail time.

Unfortunately, he’s still free, still running, and has plenty of support from propagandists and morons.

You could make the same chart, in reverse about progressives hoping Trump will ever be held accountable for his many crimes.

A conviction is about as close as we have gotten, but it’s meaningless if there is no jail time served or some other meaningful penalty to prevent more criminality.

I’m cautiously optimistic personally. It wasn’t long ago that the prevailing opinion around here was that juror #2 was going to throw the trial.

That was my thought too. I don’t like trump AT ALL, but lets not lie and try to circle jerk victories that havent even happened yet. This isn’t reddit. We’re better than that.

You could make another list just like this that starts with Trump would never win the nomination and ends with Trump couldn’t get elected from prison and it would basically look the same

Yeah but what about all the other times he hasn’t been held accountable. We aren’t the delusional ones for thinking he will get away with it, he has always gotten away with it. You are delusional thinking this time will be different

I am fairly certain after he appeals the sentencing in July there are at least 5 SCOTUS justices willing to be convinced this wasn’t election fruad because the FEC knew about it and never prosecuted Trump even in the last 3 years after he was in office.

It is a weak argument, but this SCOTUS overturned Roe for being a weak argument by using the same weak logical arguments used in Roe to rule in favor of Dobbs.
