Same here. I continued and I was like, nah, as passionately as I feel, I will just bow out. TBH, I hate debating, and maybe part of it is because I have a nasty temper. It isn’t that I’m incompetent in debating, though I probably am, but more because I fear what I can say or do. And if I come across as bigoted, and yeah, I should work on it, I see it as rather honestly earned in my case. I could give you many stories of what certain folks have said, done, etc., toward me. I just wish I could live in a place with mostly self-educated intelligent people and mostly conservative values. I imagine more feel like me and that most are afraid to let that be known or have given up and don’t know where to look in finding like-minded people. I don’t think our userbase is necessarily like-minded per se. I’ve already muted one. I don’t think others’ “echo chamber” accusation is fair since I don’t see that. But still, it is a healthier online culture than many places, and I appreciate you and others in the Fediverse working toward that much.
Thanks! I know nothing about hosting servers. It is something that does sound interesting to me and I wouldn’t mind learning.
And by like-minded, I wasn’t meaning in reference to me, but to each other. We don’t have a cohesive userbase, but we do seem to have a healthy culture. So I meant that part as a compliment.
As for me, I wouldn’t have any better luck in finding users who think like me, even if I ran my own instance. That is just reality.
8$ for a domain for the first year (17$ a year after that for a .com). 12$ a month for a little 2gb of ram server over at dreamhost.
Need access to either a linux computer, mac computer, or windows computer with windows linux subsystem (windows 10 or 11) with ssh installed.
The rest is running a simple script that auto sets it up for you. Dream host automatically opens the ports for you. It’s pretty simple and I can walk you through it if you ever want to.
Thanks. Well, I prefer Windows 7, and if ReactOS was stable and complete enough, I’d use that. I don’t know if I’d have compatibility. That’s why I use the Java version of Minecraft and not the “Windows” version, for instance.
I appreciate the candid responses. Its been on my mind lately. I apologize if I come off over zelous.

Fediverse is dope. You would be a good admin. Should run your own instance. Lemmy or Mastodon.
