Sounds odd giving jellyfish immortality while ignoring all the time mayflies spend as young and only counting the last stage of their life, ignoring the years it can be underwater. The 4 days is just the sexual adult form.
These insect lifespans are for only the adult form. Mayflies, for example, live for like 2-3 years as nymphs in the water before transforming into a subimago and then shortly thereafter into a mature mayfly
Damn, I’ll be pushing to outlive a chimpanzee born the same day as me
Takeaway: to avoid having to lie to the kids, the next pet should be a jellyfish.
The jellyfish will be a family heirloom though
Now think about how slow we move when we are older. How our dogs get arthritic and move slower. Then think about those predatory animals on the list. Older lions hunting and only get some of their kills. Grazing animals being easy kills to when hunted. Killer whales getting older with similar problems is a new thought to me. Blue whales likely have it easier. Shrill plankton and the smaller things they eat are likely easier to “hunt”
I think a lot of animals live longer in captivity/domestication because in the wild, when you get just a bit too old, you just die. There isn’t really the margin for error for something like getting worse at your job because you are old.
They messed up the placement on the scale for the elephant
Sign me up for some of that transdifferentiation
The Greenland Shark should be in there.
The human life lifespan can be 88 as seen from Loma Linda
Why break up the humans? What about other animals male and female lifespan.
No parrot >:(
