as an aside, here’s a fun thread from awhile ago by someone else: What are some underrated careers/jobs?

p.s. leaving this open-ended per community theme, we can get into specifics in comments!

Try nepotism. I know a guy looking for a job the ‘normal’ way (job boards, ads) and it ain’t working. Didn’t work for me either over the course of a year. I got my current job though a friend of a family member, and at least two friends have offered to get me a job where they work (although I’d much prefer to starve than work where they do).

Oh and don’t quit before you’ve got something lined up. I made that mistake last time (see: no work for a year). It was pretty cool until my savings ran dry.

Friends, including friends of family, helping to get a foot in the door for someone who is otherwise qualified is using connections and not nepotism.

Nepotism is when an unqualified family member is given a job that should have gone to someone else.

Been told this forever - it’s not about what you know but about who you know. And usually who you know knows what you know and are capable of.

A personality goes a long way in landing a job too. Having that “in” with someone who knows you at a company can be a huge help. Good help is hard to find.
