No, and it took years for the index to make it down officially too. One of the reasons I remember hearing was that for any warranty or repairs the detective unit would’ve had to have been shipped all the way to the US and back again which can easily be some $100 in postage for the round trip.

Eventually it became available thru EB Games (think Aus Gamestop) who I imagine can act as a intermediary and send units up in batches rather than one at a time

EB Games?? They were in the US for a while until Gamestop bought them iirc. Used to have an EB Games in my local mall like over a decade ago.

Well there you go. We also have Woolworths, Target, and Kmart still more or less thriving (certainly more than their northern brethren)

They don’t, but irritatingly, when one of its accessories are on sale Steam will pitch it to me.

That’ll probably be the big news from all this, further global release. I’m not holding my breath for the next iteration until the end of the next console generation (the upcoming "switch 2"generation)

Yes, both the Ally and the Go are sold in Australia. However it’s also quite easy to order a “grey import” Steam Deck from Amazon, which is what I did. I’m guessing the sheer number of Steam Decks that have been sold into Australia that way are factoring into Valve’s decision, because anecdotally among my peers the Steam Decks owned outnumber the Allys 4:1. Pretty impressive for a device not officially sold here.
