Ang lungkot ng may hilig kang niche hobby and wala kang mapagkuwentuhan sa circle of friends mo. I love light novels but ny friends only love manga, manhwa, and anime. Well, I know that not everyone is into reading walls of text and I don’t resent them for that but wala lang, malungkot lang HAHAHA wala akong ma-impart-an ng saya or reactions ko sa nabasa ko

I can discuss films from 70s to present time, at wala akong mapagkwentuhan. Nowadays, audiences, both theaters and at home, just consume product, open their smartphones and take a photo with flash on. This is the case when I watched The Meg 2.

When I open discussions they’re just simply slap me with “Napanood ko na yan. Maganda naman, walakumpake sa story” card. Parang nasa The Truman Show’s last few seconds lang, eh.

Gosh, how can they find a movie good kung wala silang pake sa story? Shouldn’t a good movie make you care to the story, character etc.?

And I guess he cared for the wrong character. Nag explain ako ng todo about the movie. Hopefully napickup nya.

Same energy sa mga nagsasabi na “Di daw maganda na horror movie kasi konti lang yung jumpscare or not gory enough” on any good movie that doesn’t rely too much on those things hahaha.

Buti ka pa you had the patience to explain, I wouldn’t hahaha.

I tend to watch horror pictures, not to scare myself. Most jump scares in films are too annoying. Talk To Me and Evil Dead Rise are recent horror pictures I watched in theaters and genuinely creep me throughout.

Sometimes, genre films can be tiresome, and ending up watching some B-action and obscure indie films.

I preferred slow-burn, anxiety-inducing horror films. I still enjoy jumpscare scenes naman.

                genre films can be tiresome

Yeah, I kinda stopped watching horror for a while mainly because I live alone hahaha. I watch more comedies nowadays, specifically screwball comedies like His Girl Friday and most Cary Grant movies.

                  slow-burn

Matic boring agad yan sa mainstream, haha.

                  anxiety-inducing

Psychological horror films are underrated af. Chris Nolan, for the first time, attempted this with Oppenheimer, and damn… the entire third act.

Pati yung Nerdwriter about the Avengers as defenders of the status quo, pinanood ko din sa kanya. Di naman need tayo mag explain lahat.

I do laugh some nonsensical moments in films like those extremely absurd “contents” on Tubi, but calling them “a good movie?” Oh no!

Lol, just wait until their LN to manga/anime adaptations end and then they want more. That’s what made me move from anime, to manga, and eventually a bit of light novels (but mostly web novels).

There’s a few web novels that I started following because their manga/anime adaptations kept me wanting more.

Having said all that, I don’t think I’ve really settled in. I tend to skim WN chapters rather than read them, and even after hundreds of WN chapters, I still have no idea what the hell has happened (other than a basic outline of the plot so far), or maybe that’s just due to the quality of writing. That’s why I tend to prefer manga: It has more content than anime, but still giving me a better mental picture of what’s happening.

Some of the webnovels I’m following (but not religiously) are:

      • Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi
      • Isekai ni Otosareta… Jouka wa Kihon!
      • Shoushaman no Isekai Survival ~Zettai Hito to wa Tsurumanee~

Yeah yeah, that’s what I hope happens. Na macurious sila sa daloy ng story that they start reading the novels. I pointed them to A Certain Magical Index and Classroom of the Elite as examples of brilliant light novel series that have crappy anime adaptations. One of my friends dived into one LN - That Time I Reincarnated As A Slime - but nothing more, nothing less. Well, I guess that’s a win. Somehow.

Hahaha~ Yeeeep~ that’s the gateway drug into LN, it’s not for everybody tho.

I actually wanted to venture into LN back in the Haruhi Suzumiya craze, but nothing came out of that. It’s probably one of the things that led me to self-studying Japanese though. The thought of reading the original LNs in their original language or sth.

Alala ko when we had Charades at work as part of a getting-to-know-you activity, yung babae namin na kakampi kept on laughing hysterically at the clue shown to her. From what I remember, it was an ordinary movie; hindi ko na-gets ano ba tinatawanan niya. The guy beside me deadpanned “Dr. Giggles” (some bad forgettable horror movie about a killer dentist with a laughing disorder) and I just about lost it, lol. He became a close friend later and part of my wedding entourage.

Imagine, magbibihis ka ng mga dolls based on a theme, parang Project Runway. Minsan kasi, it feels like work. Demanding.

I prefer novels din vs manhwa/anime. Ang bilis ng story progression and mas fleshed out yung characters.

Where my trash pandas at? Ahaha.

        Otome Isekai

What’s the full title? I’m not quite into isekais as much as I am to romcom, psychological, and drama LNs, but I’ve read KonoSuba from the fifth volume up to end, and I’m currently reading Re:Zero Volume 18 right now so I’m pretty acquainted with the genre.

Also, I agree. A lot of character monologues are lost when adapting a text-based piece into a picture-based one. That’s why I’m pretty unsatisfied with the anime adaptations of light novels - they just don’t do justice to the characters at all and those that should be redeemable or loveable end up getting hated or shallow. I know it’s hard to translate character internal monologues into something tangible on the screen, but still it makes me sigh. :<

Mostly target for women yung Otome Isekai (sometimes referred as the Villainess genre), so ibang flavor sya ng “trashness” vs normal Shonen Isekai.

          Japanese:

The Noble Girl Who Finds a Nerdy and Plain Guy Moe Thinks that the Arrogant Prince is In the Way - very fluffy. Medyo short-ish read. Title is the summary. Lol

Observation record of a self proclaimed villainess fiance - one of the best there is sa OI genre. Highly recommended. Premise is reincarnator si Villainess Fiance and ni-confess nya to agad kay Crown Prince fiance (very innocent si Bertha). Story is the “logs” of the Crown Prince observing yung antics ng reincarnator fiance nya. A real fun read.

          Korean:

I’m not the Final Boss’ lover - not that popular sa OI circle, pero it’s one of may favorites. Premise reincarnator yung isang mob character sa isang action game. Kaparty nya (Jun, the female lead) yung primary character ng game (Fabian). Pero during the 2nd run, she was betrayed by Fabian and sumali sya sa rival party.

For my derelict favorite - this one is popular pero medyo madaming detractors. What I love about this series is it showcase what happens to the protagonists after “happy ever after” ending. Would their love still prevail kapag wala na yung primary antagonist? What happens to the 2nd male lead?
