With UlyssesT out there touching grass, I haven’t seen this thread in a while. What in the past do you NOT miss? It could be very personal or just something everyone experienced but doesn’t anymore.

For me, I am so fucking happy the food scene in burgerland has changed since the 2000s. People seem to enjoy more well-seasoned foods and healthier options seem to outstrip the unhealthy slop I remember in the 2000s. Even my yee-yee ahh Ohio suburb has changed somewhat noticeably to support fresh ingredients. Less WASPslop is always good.

How about y’all?

    Unassigned seats in movie theaters

Memory cards for game consoles. Switch still has them, but they’re not as necessary for saves alone.

    Having to burn CDs.

Having to wait until a TV show aired at a specific time

      unassigned seats in movie theaters

Couldn’t disagree more, I just want to show up and buy my ticket at the window, I don’t want to F5 the theater website a week in advance for the showtime I want. I hate online sale of tickets for just about all in person events

      • I wonder if this is location dependent, I’ve really never had trouble getting a ticket at the theater right before. I basically never see a theater more than half full aside from like, opening night and I just don’t go to things on opening night.

Maybe so, but if you do this today at a theater that pre-sells assigned seats, you’re guaranteed not to get the better seats which have been pre-selected, even if you are there first.

(Double whammy when people file in during the movie because they are not in a rush to get a seat)

I feel the same way about concerts. Live Nation and Ticketmaster would not be a thing if mfers from around the world did not have purchase access to the show happening down the street from me. Just let me walk over and buy from the ticket agent and let’s be done with the transaction.

You mean in the past? No there was just no assigned seating, they sold tickets until the theater was full and that was it.

What I miss about this is that 1) there was a benefit to being early, 2) there was actual social interaction involved (eg “excuse me we have three, could you move down one?”), and 3) if all else failed sitting separately is really not a big deal. Plus 4) people knew to show up early to get good seats so people were actually on time to the showtime. Drives me up a wall when I’m sitting in a shitty seat in a half-empty theater, while for the first 10 minutes of the movie people file in to their assigned, better seats

          That’s my rant

Edit plus 5) like, if your plans changed you didn’t get fucked over nor did you fuck the theater and another moviegoer. You just didn’t go. There was no credit card refund and empty seat in the theater involved

Nah, I meant now. Like if you didn’t order ahead, you just get a random seat. So it negates the being early advantage, but all else is pretty much equal otherwise. I’m the opposite on pretty much all that. I don’t really want to show up 20 minutes before the showtime because it means I have to sit through about 40 minutes of ads/trailers (I’ve timed it to about that before). Definitely not tired of people ‘saving’ seats for their friends by throwing their coats over them for that 40 minutes and asking people to move. I’m in it for the big screen and sound though, not necessarily to share the experience with the other people I don’t know.

I get you on refunds/not showing up though and people showing up after the movie started. Though that has kind of always happens to me in theaters without assigned seats also. I mildly complained about a group of teenagers showing up late to Nosferatu, playing on their phones, then getting up a second time to get drinks and stuff 20 minutes into the movie.

Switch also just uses the same medium as every other mobile device (microsd) instead of some proprietary bullshit
