I remember there were plenty of mainstream articles about steps Biden could take with his executive powers, that he never took, to work around this and provide abortion access to affected people, some even floated the idea of putting abortion clinics on military bases and other federal land. Where were the task forces, where was the bully pulpit, where was the fire to do anything but spout flaccid, meaningless platitudes? Maybe it’s because Biden himself is a catholic with a history of anti-choice stances, who planned to appoint an anti-choice judge to a lifetime appointment in Kentucky a day before Roe v Wade was overturned, but I’m not sure that incoherent sack of bones is the one driving the executive branch at this point so who knows. I blame the entire party. They could use their political and media leverage to push him to act, but they haven’t and they won’t, because abortion restrictions only affect the working class, and raising a stink about it would get in the way of their real priorities.

*and as GayActorMichaelDouglas said, it would set a precedent for Democrats meaningfully helping people. If they set that precedent, and show that action is possible, people are going to start asking for more improvements to their lives, improvements the donors don’t approve of. Better to maintain the illusion that they’re trying their best but that positive change, or even reversing negative change, is impossible.
