Yes, and there’s some really decent instances that either have original content or mirror content from YouTube channels. Peertube.biz and it’s alternative subdomains is amazing, with those peertube is basically viable on a day to day basis.
As far as I am aware it is federated so using one instance to watch videos of another is possible. Also when I fix my server I am planning to host my own instance.
It is indeed federated. Most of the videos I watch on fbxl video are from other websites.
You can also subscribe to channels using mastodon or pleroma and get the video embeds right in your feed.
That is really cool! Sadly I know of only 3 youtubers that are on peertube.
