If there is one thing the workers can’t stand, it is occasionally getting paid to go fishing or crack open a cold one and grill outdoors.

Everyone here (or maybe it was Hasan, I can’t remember) always says not to think of the republican working class as just a bunch of braindead morons, just people who are misguided; Well this is the ultimate test on whether they really are stupid or not.

  • He’s saying this on Juneteenth because IDK he couldn’t pick up a book of stamps or something. When it’s Fourth of July he’ll be all like “the hard working Americans earned this holiday.” It’s not so much the racism as it is “What do you mean I can’t buy stamps on a Wednesday, this is America!”

I read When Serfs Stood Up In Tbet recently, and found it to be a dark omen. Reading the descriptions of the omnipresent environment of predation and the myriad ways people were exploited, has me wondering when they’ll bust out the subscription fees for every flower pot.

I worked in food service and retail for a long time before I stumbled my way into manufacturing, and federal holidays were actually the worst. Some of the busiest days of the year when we had to serve all these hogs. Some places at least paid time and a half, but many don’t even do that.

And they’re always saying shit like, “Can’t believe they’re making you work on [holiday name]!” Like, yeah, you’re the reason why

Yep. I hate and despise every. single. holiday. with every fiber of my soul. and i hate that i hate them.

my parents: “but the holiday party starts at 11 am don’t you want to see your sis!”

me: “i’ll be lucky to get off by 4 pm and still have to shower because i am a sweaty disgusting mess”

them: “it’s 5pm where are you? everyone is leaving!”

me, exhausted and driving an hour and a half to get to them hating the fucking holidays and they forget every time (my family works civil service)

Yeah huge numbers of the worst off workers already don’t get shit for holidays and have to deal with everyone else’s privilege on those days. The rational part of my brain doesn’t want any working person to lose that benefit but part of me really couldn’t give a shit. Especially so because any time I say “maybe everything should be closed on holidays, not just your job” to a white collar worker they act like I said we should ritually sacrifice their dog.

My last job had holiday pay. And travel pay. And health insurance. On paper it paid less than my current job, but god damn did it pay so much more in practice.

I just hate that people buy the narrative that we need to penny pinch to the point where you cant take a day off otherwise the American economy is going to explode. Pretty sure if 100% of the bullshit jobs went away and people got paid the same as if they had them, our economy wouldnt be any different

You could have Poland as an example. In 2000’ we had high unemployment in horrible conditions because of mass trashdeal faux employment that won’t give you anything like holidays, retirement, etc etc, you were entirely on the mercy of employer. Which was also illegal to employ people in full time on it, but no one ever was punished for it and we talk about millions of cases in long years.

Then a fucking PiS protofascist government noticed it’s also putting entire country budget in shambles and will soon evolve into multipronged social crisis (succdems were ok with it) and someone there actually had a functioning brain for once and instead of delegalising it any further, they just taxed the trashdeals exactly the same as normal codex jobs. Employers mafia of course screamed bloody murder, but were ignored as political support for this was overwhelming and even the anti-union solidarność didn’t sabotaged it, even if just because they are going on PiS leash for ages.

This caused the number of full-time trashdeals to drop dramatically, most of those people retained their jobs, but now were properly employed in codex deals (which clearly shows entire case to be just capitalist exploitation), unemployment dropped drastically and even economy improved.

Probably a quiet way to attack all the federal holidays directly affecting federal employees.

Oh yeah… and the racism of it being Junteenth.

In my country the government recently abolished a holiday in order to get more money to fund more military so they could fight Russia.

It was a huge success. Workers have been extatic about getting to work a day more instead of relaxing. The popularity of the government has skyrocketed ever since.
