Wishing specific, violent and painful death on someone was obviously going to result in a ban, whatever anyone’s feelings on the subject are.

Even ignoring the clear violation of the rules, there are a lot of jurisdictions in which not attempting to moderate such comments could lead to liability for the site administrators.

And I do think it’s important to remember that the lemmy.ml instance specifically is tied to two people who are not anonymous. Nutomic and Dessalines may not use their real names on the site, but they are employed to develop Lemmy and their information can easily be obtained by those seeking to hold them to account.

That wouldn’t have happened if they remembered to make it explicit they were talking about our favourite videogame Minecraft

i’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. if you make violent threats, you will be banned, regardless of whether you’re on lemmy or lemmygrad. as others have pointed out, it’s against the lemmy rules.

And this is why we don’t ride on their shit. I have no issues with Lemmy folk as long as they ‘stay on their side of the bridge’, as I’m sure many of them have said about Black folk and immigrants before. It’s not worth brigading them just bc they have a gaggle of shithead FOSSbro liberals for a moderation staff.
