Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) on Tuesday feigned a shocked reaction when asked about Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) announcement that he would direct House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

“Oh my god, really?” Fetterman said, raising his hands to the side of his head, when asked by an NBC journalist about the McCarthy news.

“Oh my gosh, you know, oh, it’s devastating,” Fetterman continued, before laughing audibly.

“Ooo, don’t do it. Please don’t do it! Oh, no! Oh, no,” he added, before walking off.

I love this guy. A heaping helping of ridicule is exactly what House Republicans need and deserve.

Exactly. I hope they do it and see that nobody actually cares because every hates Biden. The majority of people just hate the GOP drastically more.

Their confusion will be delicious. We already see them not get it when they are confounded that they don’t see Biden flags, Biden caravans, or rallies. I love Fetterman’s response cause it’s such a good reflection of how most people feel.

This isn’t because “everyone hates Biden”, it’s just because they have cero evidence and that’s on them (GOP) and them alone. Biden has been a great president for everything he has been able to do so far. His age isn’t a reason to hate him.

I’d rep him in Germany if his merch store sent overseas.

Which just highlights that US politics today is Cultists vs. Ordinary Folks.

I don’t want politicians who try to make me swoon, chant, march, brawl, or holler. I want politicians who sit down and do their goddamn job like responsible grown-ups. Fix the infrastructure. Uphold the treaties. Prosecute the criminals. Fill the appointed offices. Get justice done. Regulate the industries. Protect the workers.

“Make Politics Boring Again.” What it is to be American should not be about politics, government, or culture war. We have a pretty awesome thing going on in this country, and all the best parts of it have nothing to do with the presidency.

Where does this “everyone hates Biden” come from? I’m truly curious what thought process is there. Is he my favorite president? No. Do I hate him? Also no.

Probably would have been able to phrase it as “nobody loves him”. Or maybe “everyone has critisms of Biden”. I guess it being harder to properly characterize what normal political support looks like since the emergence of trump 7 years ago is just another sign of how shit things have gone

The appropriate phrase, by contrast to Trump and his followers, is “nobody worships Biden”. Many of us appreciate what he’s accomplished, and like him as President and as a person, but we don’t have a cult-like attitude of unconditional admiration and worship of the guy like MAGA do with Trump.

Some people think Biden’s great, some people think he’s okay, others think less of him. But you’re right in that no matter their opinion of Biden, most people think far, far less of Trump and his disciples.

McCarthy keeps picking the decisions that placate the far right at the cost of their national prospects. A plurality believed that Republicans are to blame for the debt ceiling crisis earlier this year, when they were polled after the fact.

If Republicans don’t pass a bipartisan budget from the Senate in the House because they’re too busy trying to impeach Biden with no evidence, and the government shuts down… well. It won’t be on all Republicans because of the Senate Bill, but it will all fall on McCarthy’s head. He can’t blame anyone else for House Republicans taking the beating, and having their prospects worsen in 2024 because of it.

And the icing on the cake, they might not even have unanimity within their caucus. Can you imagine if the impeachment moves forward to a vote because the far right keeps pushing for it, and the vote fails because vulnerable Republicans don’t want to throw their seats away?

I should stock up on some popcorn.
