A government shutdown would harm military readiness and have “huge, profound impacts across the globe,” Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said Tuesday morning.
With a looming government shutdown, over 1 million military members and furloughed civilian employees are at risk of going without pay during the shutdown period, Singh said on CNN, adding that a shutdown would send a dangerous message to Washington’s adversaries.
“If the U.S. government shuts down, China, Russia, North Korea, Iran — these are countries that are not shutting down, that are continuing their operations,” she said. “Any type of shutdown, any type of impact to our military and readiness, has huge, profound impacts across the globe.”
This makes sense when you consider the fact that republicans will do anything to strengthen our foreign adversaries.
Republicans love the military industrial complex. Actual military members though, not so much.
Unfortunately, like filibusters, government shutdowns are a Pandora’s box. Once they’ve been used as a negotiating tactic once, you can never un-use them.
That’s not to say this isn’t despicable, but unless there’s bipartisan support to change the process, we’re going to see government shutdowns every time there’s disagreement over funding.
Did we learn nothing from the Wagner Group? Pay your fucking mercenaries
Those responsible would expect a revolt to be in their favour. Plus they’d be instigating it.
Military is well funded. Too bad they can shift funds around, as they have enough.
How and why would the government shut down?
Short answer: the government needs funding to operate, and the Republicans are blocking already agreed-to appropriations to make a statement.
Shorter answer: domestic terrorism*
*yep, I said it
That wasn’t a bold statement lol they are terrorists.
It was even on the banner at CPAC! I don’t know why I demure, but here we are.
It doesn’t literally shut down. Funding to a lot of agencies stops until a budget is agreed upon. Bit oversimplified, but more or less.
ha military readiness.
get a real job
