THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE LIVING UNDER THE POVERTY LINE IN A “FIRST WORLD COUNTRY” than there are in a country that spent centuries being a superexploited backwater shithole, lost literal hundreds of millions in wars since the 1800s, had all their gold reserves stolen by Chiang Kaishek and was blockaded and sanctioned by the US for decades in the hopes that everyone would starve, and has 4x the population.
