So it seems like this community will one of the ones where all the other shit_____say communities get merged into. In preparation for that and the incoming rise in traffic, we should have a few more mods here to make sure things run smoothly and keep reactionaries out (ironic). Anyone interested? Comment below. Looking specifically for users with reasonably active accounts and a reasonably long history of posting Marxist/ML content, either on Lemmygrad or on another instance.
Edit: nevermind, plans changed. Apply to ShitReactionariesSay instead.
Been on the site eight months, 1.3k comments, so relatively active I suppose. Hopefully considered by others mostly agreeable and interested in fostering a community of good-faith discussion. I’d be interested in taking on the role.
I’m hoping to get others to join the site. How did you first arrive here?
I thought SLS was being merged into /c/shitreactionariessay?
Anyway, I’d be willing to help out with this. I’d say I’m reasonably active
Yes, that is what it’s looking like. I originally was planning on merging everything into SLS and just renaming it Shit Reactionaries Say, but most people (admin team + community) wanted to make a new community, so I made !shitreactionariessay@lemmygrad.ml
Ideally SLS would be archived (just put it as mod only submissions) and I can name @AgreeableLandscape@lemmygrad.ml as mod of the new community and they can take it up like they did SLS.
SRS seems utterly deserted, so if the old ones aren’t removed/merged people will just post as previous.
Also i don’t know if marking it as NSFW is a good move, is hiding it default option? I can’t remember, but if yes, it would sink under notice and before you know, SLS would be recreated every week.
I created it just a few days ago in preparation for the merger ; SLS would be the only one that gets to be “archived” (turned to mod only posting) because there’s so many posts on it. The other ones had barely any activity.
I also turned on NSFW because some people wanted those posts to be hidden by default as they don’t want their feed to be taken up by infuriating stuff liberals say. It could either be per post or by default for the community, ideally that would be taken up by the final mods. I’m just the placeholder mod for now until someone takes it off my hands lol
SLS would be recreated every week
People likely will recreate communities, but we can also delete them as we see them pop up. I put a notice on the sidebar (from the main page) which should reduce new communities of this type anyway.
People do not wanting to see it would have just one (or two) community to block, i don’t think it’s that inconvenient to warrant preemptive block.
Also shitfascistsay is pretty much alive, so that one would be good to maybe archive too. Rest are pretty barren.
Shitfascistssay will probably get archived too because it has enough posts.
Deleting a community btw doesn’t really delete it (it would break federation), it just makes it inaccessible unless you have a direct link to a post there. For the smaller communities, mods were able to save the links themselves cause there were like 10-20 posts, but for things like SLS with its 1.5k posts or Shit fascists say with its ~400 posts, that’s definitely more difficult
Problem with SFS is that anarcho-bol is not always active and doesn’t seem to have seen the news about the merger 😬. I’ll probably be able to name a second mod to that community who can then put it in mod only
Also mod only only prevents people from posting but not from commenting. Lemmy’s moderation tools are not super evolved just yet, but at least we’re able to do this merger and it’s coming along nicely.
For now technically new communities cannot be created (it’s a rule already in the sidebar), but existing communities will remain up until this Saturday, as announced in !lemmygrad_court@lemmygrad.ml.
Ok, thank you.
is hiding it default option
That’s a good point. It might be better to just individually mark posts with hate speech as NSFW. I don’t really think the average uninformed liberal opinion warrants NSFW, anyway
I’m interested in helping out
@AnarchoBolshevik@lemmygrad.ml and @Karlovious@lemmygrad.ml please weigh in as well.
I would want to help since I created shit pcm says but I feel like I’d be a very bad mod tbh
Why is that, if I may ask?
It’s good to ascertain your capabilities and hold off before committing, though that’s different from second-guessing yourself.
Since we’re gonna close down SLS this Saturday (grace period of 7 days ends then), if you want you can name me mod here and I can take care of it. Redirecting people to SRS and all that.
Sounds like a plan!
Huh this is weird, you don’t seem to have the moderator buttons that other users do. Think it might because you’re an admin?
Super weird. Another admin can name me mod on any community but you can’t name admins mods to your communities. No worries, I’ll ask someone to name me and will do the things.
Alright thanks!
Oh. So we’re merging the subcoms somehow?
Not really merging them (that’s not currently possible, AFAIK; the best we could do is use a bot to copy all posts from the different communities into one, but it doesn’t seem like there’s much of a point to that considering the nature of the posts), but closing/locking them and then using /c/shitreactionariessay and /c/shitultrassay as the only “Shit X Say” communities, to make it easier to block for those who don’t want to see it
Oh, good point.
Yeah, I could see how it may be annoying to others here.
The who-what-where now?
I’m terminally online and I’m a bolshevik, soooo
Got banned for the post about food? God this is just stupid
I don’t necessarily agree with the ban based on what I saw, but it was for comments made on the post (rule 3), not the post itself (not my downvote, btw)
Who got banned?
Frippa, but only on Lemmygrad and for two days
Ah, didnt know bans were temp
They can be. You can see the details in the mod log (at the bottom of the page on the desktop version of the website)
Oh snap, I forgot that the site doesn’t just have a browser version, but a desktop version as well.
It’s still a browser version (AFAIK there’s no non-web desktop client for Lemmy), but the mobile version of the website has a different UI to facilitate navigation
