My god i cant find anything unless i type out an exact name of the video, recommendations under currently watched videos and just in general are the same no matter what. It feels like a lottery when you hope that youtube will bless you with content that you were searching for. Im aware that im ranting but i just cant with it anymore. All they had to do is just leave things how they were and not gut an algorithm that worked just fine before. I recently used bilibili and the contrast is painful. Like WHAT??? A related but not seen before video/thumbnail??? Under a video of the same nature??? What a brilliant idea!!!

YouTube Algorithm be like: Oh you like Hakim, Second Thought and geopolitical economy report? Would you be interested in Ben Shapiro and PragerU telling you why China is evil and communism is the end of humanity?

I made the mistake of trying shorts the other day. After months of mashing “do not recommend channel” and I had gotten rid of most “CCP collapsing in 10 days” and “clean your room and disrespect women” videos and they had stayed gone for months. One 5m scroll and they are back. dogwater website

I only watch the jreg or lady izdihar etc that come up in my feed. I could never scroll through all that crap. For some reason I just remembered David Pakman claiming he’s the vanguard of leftism on YT shorts after correctly stating there’s like no lefty stuff on there.

I don’t understand what the word “dogwater” means. I keep seeing it, and I can tell it’s used as a way of saying that something is bad, but what does the actual word mean? I don’t get it.

Edit: I looked it up, and unsurprisingly, it’s typical Amerikkkan callousness. Apparently, it’s an Amerikkkan word that means water that’s only suitable for dogs to drink because it’s too polluted for humans. Why would it be okay to give animals water that’s too polluted to drink? Honestly, I don’t know why I’m surprised when most Amerikkkans can’t even be bothered to care about other humans, let alone animals.

The search only showing like 4 results and the rest being recommendations is new behaviour right? I feel like it wasn’t like that like two weeks ago

Everyone, please do yourselves a favour and use NewPipe on Android, and Invidious proxy instances via web browser. I attained some peace with throwing YouTube.com and its recommendation al Gore rhythm into the gutter.

Another tip, if you want to wade through YouTube lib/con brainrot, go to socialist channels’ videos and see recommendations for those videos. Chain up and find more related channels this way. And stick to those channels as often as possible.

YouTube is literally becoming unusable with updates at this point. Every update literally destroys a properly functional usage of the website. They are so fucking annoying at this point, like I just get barely used to newest update and then new bullshit comes. Who in their right mind even thinks of the design of sorting 3 videos in a row instead of 4 or 5 and then seeing only 6 videos with big ass thumbnails covering the whole screen when you open the main page recommended.

Then the design of the like, dislike, subscribe, date, description etc under videos, again with big ass icons. They are literally making everything worse and worse at least every two weeks with updates and changes no one asked for, what even is happening recently?

I miss like 2016ish YouTube design, when it was consistent for years and didn’t have something changed every other week. I just got used to this past 2020 design and now they do this, I can’t keep up with this, I hope there is a way to just say say fuck off to updates and choose whichever version you like. Srry for the rant, but the site went to shit, it’s unacceptable.

They’re not content to provide what YouTube was created for. They just want that TokTok money but can’t figure out why they’re being outcompeted.

Plus, they’re ramping up the propaganda function now that the monopolies have been created and most internet usage comprises about ten websites (Google, Lemmygrad (this one was also voted number one in the Forbes), Reddit, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and now Chat GPT).

This is the first time the digital sphere has been almost entirely monopolised, though, and the ruling class doesn’t know what to expect. Hence they can’t just put the price up like they would with insulin, etc. Although they are experimenting with this, they’re learning that charging users and overdoing the adverts breaks the magic spell of the addictiveness algorithms that they had previously more-or-less perfected. So people just log off or disengage. Not entirely, of course, but it’s more fragile than was thought.

The big corps had everything nailed down, but the rate of profit declined and they ‘had’ to respond, leading to the current mess. The execs are flailing under the contradictions.

I agree with the sentiment but I’d suggest that it’s on purpose. It’s not shitty by accident. It’s shitty so that / because it performs the functions that the owners want it to perform.

Imagine being paid and knowing web design just to do this! If it ain’t broken don’t fix it, it was already perfected and they had to ruin it.

As far as mobile clients go NewPipe still seems to be functioning properly. (It does much of what’s normally done on YouTube locally so that you don’t need an account for it to function.)

I’ve thought of trying TikTok to post content because none of my followers on YouTube hardly ever see my stuff unless I manage to get traction (need experience to get experience type beat), and someone said the algorithm there actually gives low number new content a chance

Well TikTok employs feds which leads to massive censorship of communist content. Midwestern Marx has been banned seven times for no reason (other than being radical and educated leftists that quickly gain a large audience).

Which makes “TikTok should be banned because TikTok = China = Communism = Bad” even more hilarious. For being a “see-see-pee propaganda/spyware outfit,” it doesn’t seem too interested in having communism on its platform.

YT is def snowballing, and being very active supposedly improves your chances.

I shared the content someone had deleted without warning before dissappearing, it reached 5k views a day, and one day I decided to hide it while I talked with someone who wanted to share it so all content was unified. It died. 80 views a day now.

Youtube for the last few years has been web devs tryign to fuck up the platform by making unnecessary changes.

Uplaod alerts have always worked poorly, Search has been turned junk, Recommendations are pretty shit (a mode for “recommend from my subscriptions” or “recommend new creators” would be appreciated), Downvote being removed from sight, Age restriction works like shit, UI has been degrading for a while.

Uplaod alerts have always worked poorly

They used to work flawlessly, back when I would receive an email for each upload. I could see the thumbnail, read the title, and decide whether or not it interested me.

But then, I’m sure some bean counter looked at the metrics and said: “the user isn’t visiting every day when we send them these emails! Stop sending these emails so they have to come to the website!”

Here are the add-ons I use that make YouTube a functional site for me.

    Unhook https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-recommended-videos/

Channel Blocker (especially if you want to blacklist certain types of channels or videos from appearing in your algorithm feeds.) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-cleaner/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search

    SponsorBlock https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sponsorblock/

    uBlock Origin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search

Or if you don’t wanna go through the hassle of installing add-ons. You can instead use Piped which has ad-block and SponsorBlock built-in.
