PbtA means “Powered by the Apocalypse” — games inspired by Apocalypse World, as self-identified by their creators.

I have mixed feelings about PbtA. On the one hand, I am so done with D&D and I’d like to see people play other stuff. Stuff that isn’t a close relative of D&D. On the other, I didn’t really like it the two or three times I tried it.

The success rate felt too low, and the playbooks felt very restrictive.

Maybe one day I’ll get a good group for Fate.

My experience with FitD games is the same. I appreciate them, I’m glad they’re there, but after trying them out a bunch, realized it just wasn’t the experience I wanted, nor what my group wanted.

Obviously for a lot of people that isn’t the case, and if they’re having a fantastic time, great! It’s just a personal preference.

Join the Fate discord: https://discord.gg/BpWnkS4T I love Fate and there’s no shortage of people getting together for all sorts of games there.

You may be interested in Cortex Prime too. If you want to stick to high fantasy, their Tales of Xadia rpg is the official setting for the Dragon Prince series. It also powers official rpgs for Firefly, Dresden Files and others. Official discord with LFG forum: https://discord.gg/MacVYeT5
