Pixel Launcher will soon allow you to choose the default web 'Search engine'.
The app build that comes with Android 14 QPR2 Beta 3 contains a hidden search settings item called "Search Engine". This feature will allow you to choose an app for the web search.

It’s lighter as I get to decide what to keep, no loss of functionality as I can still install the Pixel apps from the Play Store if I want to (but with the advantage of added security from GrapheneOS as I can disable their network access among other things), except for Google Pay NFC payments which don’t work for now. How is it compared to the stock OS?

does split screen work with custom launchers in Graphene OS? I use Neo Launcher on my Pixel (stock) and split screen doesn’t work at all.
I just tried Neo Launcher and set it as the default one and split screen seems to work fine.
Thats good to hear. Thanks for checking. Graphene OS team did an amazing job with their OS.
