Really looking forward to this! I don’t know if they’ve published a target release date before, but if development has reached a point where the end is visible, that seems like a massive milestone in and of itself.
Holy hell, this is still a thing and isn’t out yet? I remember hearing about this years ago.
If you have Discord they have a channel where they post regular updates. It makes me so excited and it is so far away… I wish I had the skills to help.
Can you share the Discord link please?
Thank you
Wow that video really gives an idea of the scale of the task. They seem to be recreating it all from scratch - Every single location from oblivion with all the textures. From what i recall, oblivion’s map was way bigger than skyrim’s.
Yup! It’s an even bigger task since they have to remake every single model by hand for legal reasons (can’t redistribute original models and textures, etc). I didn’t even realize how large Oblivion’s map was in comparison to Skyrim until they broke it down here. :O
Can anyone tl;dr? My brain hates video.
grabbed this from elsewhere:
- Release goal of 2025
- World map + landscaping - significant progress, but some regions require more attention. 6 / 9 fully landscaped, other in varying stages of progress. Overall 3632 / 4391 ‘cells’ completed (~83%).
- Navmesh - navigable areas for creatures are defined on terrain. 1/3 complete. Navmesh team always looking for more recruits.
- Interiors - 600 interiors, 260 completed. 40%. Dungeons take the longest and were prioritized first, over those simpler ones such as houses.
- 3D Assets - 2508 original assets in Oblivion, need remade to meet legal standard to release Skyblivion. Particularly plants and clothes. 615 left in total.
- Quests - 199 quests, 97 playable, 25 WIP, 77 TODO.
- Gameplay - Done: Alchemy, underwater combat, spell crafting, weather. WIP: Attributes, magic, class system, disposition.
- Music: All original tracks retained + 17 original.
- No immediate DLC focus until 2025 release goal accomplished.
I am grateful; thank you so much!!!
What tools are the team using? What engine?
Skyrim’s Creation Engine (and a bunch of supplementary tools, of course)
Wow that’s amazing.
Oh, I hope this (eventually) works with Skyrim VR!
