If the Egypt thing was a myth, then how did the Nazis find the ark of the covenant in an Egyptian ruin? (And why were there so many snakes?)

The conservatives have been raising the tax burden quite significantly the past few years, and it’s a big part of their support exploding. Probably there does need to be an increase, but labours approach had been to say they’ll go after people avoiding their fair share first which seems to be generally popular.
she said that would probably be good and would help her but asked how they were going to find the money to do it since they said they weren’t increasing taxes or cutting spending elsewhere or anything
He could easily just have said that they are supposedly planning to increase revenue by funding HMRC better, removing loopholes the wealthy use to avoid tax, and adding VAT to things like private schools to the total value of a few billion more a year.
It’s a fairly prominent part of their short manifesto and general campaign, and the idea that this idiot was out campaigning without knowing it makes me think that he probably should feel stupid.
I mean in general, though I’m already starting to see people use the global South pejoratively.
I like how it looks but hate the company and most of the people who buy the car.
It’s just another step on the euphemism treadmill. The moment we could convince enough people to use a less loaded term to make the meaning commonly known, people will start to use it negatively, and it will pick up negative associations.
Most places around me have a mat and shoe rack at the entrance.
It’s always wet and muddy as well, so it might as well be the same as “always take off your shoes”
They look nice and they’re not that inconvenient. Also, they’re more difficult to catch clothes or elbows on.
I don’t wear shoes in the house but I don’t think there’s much validity around cleanliness unless you’ve got a shower by the front door and are doing a full wash and change (and even then, I’m not convinced this would make a positive difference in most scenarios)
Mud and stones very easily get stuck to shoes, and tracking in water is a dick move too.
Switzerland?
Such strange behaviour. Shoes off or get the fuck out of my house.
Uncritical support for their national liberation!
The Cornish languages speakers can take turns having each government job, though some of them will need to double up since there aren’t enough to fill every office otherwise.
I feel like if you’re going to eat meat, you should be up for at least trying dog meat. Otherwise how can you justify your dietary habits? What makes dogs special?
It’s not like massive unaddressed contradictions is anything new for liberals though.
I started dubbing this mentality “dognitive dissonance.”
That’s quite good
and communal video stores
I thought communism was supposed to improve things?
AGI will spawn out of adversarial networks for ad recognition and disguise, calling it now.
This is also why it will hate us.
it’s just the most WASP thing you can do.
WAJL (White Anglo-Jutic Lutheran) just isn’t as catchy.
because usually, mostly, only people who have that ineffable something do write novels
People have always been writing terrible fiction. Trawl the depths of AO3 and fanfiction.net, look at the great mound of rejected novels by aspiring authors. Artistic mediocrity is a part of the human condition the same as artistic excellence.
For the most part, the “ineffable something” required to write a good book is years of practice, an editor and the barrier to entry that is convincing a publisher to take you on.
Tunnels and viaducts? Unknown technology! If only some other mountainous nation on the Pacific rim had built an extensive bullet train network decades ago that we could use as a template.
They’re chasing Japanese torpedo boats
I mean, they’re huge, they’re some of the oldest human built structures in the world and they look good on a postcard.
