This was a message sent to me. The point they were trying make besides this is regarding archival of porn content being considered as NSFW. Also I am seeing massive complaint about Lemmy UI being very visually bloated compared to old.reddit.com, which is putting off many users, reminding them of the new.reddit.com travesty.

No, if a user deletes their comment on Reddit, it is visible only to admins, not to mods. If a mod deletes a user’s comment, it is visible to mod and user, and even on that user’s account page. If an account is deleted, still all the data is retained by Reddit admins.

Not using Google search for many years. Never really used Bing. I use a mix of search engines for various purposes. Startpage is a proxy of Google minus sponsored ads and relatively intrusive spying. Searx is a metasearch for multiple engines. Reddit is an information goldmine if you know where to look. Yandex and Baidu have a lot of interesting hidden results and are out of Western countries’ jurisdiction which is a huge positive. Then there are darknets with their search pockets and information.

Pedos, COVID, war et al is an excuse. After the recent raid, I believe that to avoid becoming a honeypot, they cut off the most risky source of activities - P2P torrenting. My basis of this claim are three things – torrent traffic is colossal, and torrents are mostly used for piracy (Mullvad evading DMCA issues) and ProtonVPN free tier does the exact same thing with banning P2P torrenting.

In comparison, Lemmy has a transparent modlog, transparency in “deleted” comments, transparency in your data actually being purged when account is deleted, an incomparably better moderation squad, no third party or contracted spying (see domains in uBlock Origin), xenophobes and racists are actually taken action against, vote manipulation is more transparent, brigading of accounts and instances is taken care of… these are just obvious benefits.

Its head Jonah (admin of lemmy.one instance created for PrivacyGuides) stole off $10000 ($17,500 in all) PrivacyTools.io donations and put it into his private account, they seized PTIO subreddit which is locked to this day, they made a malicious GrapheneOS figurehead Tommy a moderator immediately after he published a faux hitpiece on me (which trended on PG for a month), and they protect toxic GrapheneOS devs/mods fervently to promote Google and Apple (mods/heads all are American/Canadian nationalists).
