Pull/Push Model in a News Feed Service · Zhen Li

ActivityPub uses a “push” model. This means that data is sent from the sender to the recipient’s server. This is seen in many chat and social networking sites. The “pull” model, on the other hand, can be imagined as RSS or Atom. The recipient queries the sender’s server to retrieve the data. While this is not modern, it can simplify the protocol.
