  • I’ve been looking at the UK housing and transport data and comparing it against population density. One thing I’ve found is that communal transport is more correlated with population density than dense housing. For this reason I’d argue we don’t just wan’t to be creating more dense housing but reducing car dependence and improving public transport.

The PMCC(correlation to population density) of the UK data:

    • Flat, maisonette or apartment: Purpose-built block of flats or tenement % 0.569
    • Bus, minibus or coach % 0.551
    • Underground, metro, light rail, tram % 0.541
    • Flat, maisonette or apartment: Part of a converted or shared house (including bed-sits) % 0.503
    • Bicycle % 0.306
    • On foot % 0.302
    • Taxi % 0.264
    • Train % 0.189
    • Flat, maisonette or apartment: In a commercial building % 0.182
    • Whole house or bungalow: Semi-detached % -0.331
    • Whole house or bungalow: Detached % -0.549
    • Driving a car or van % -0.698

  • Syncthing & Logseq

Syncthing allows you to sync directories between devices, which generally makes all software, that uses local storage, better. Allowing you to:

    • Sync photos you take on your phone, to you other devices
    • This can allow Logseq to sync your notes across your devices.

Logseq is a note taking application, that is really good at facilitating Zettelkasten notes. Zettelkasten notes have a range of benefits but you can read up on that if you like. Logseq recently released a beta for their mobile application, and from experience its really good and leaves me wanting very little.

  • I doubt that technology in general causes loneliness but there has been research showing that those who use more social media are more lonely.

I wouldn’t say technology is causing loneliness but the ways that technology is applied to social situations can cause loneliness.

    For example:

    • I would of thought the printing press served to inform people of news, helping reduce the feeling of alienation of people who are different.
    • Using video conference software, such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom, to facilitate working from home will make us more lonely as we are able to communicate less frequently with others and there are some ways of communicating that are hard to facilitate over this software.
