Are we to honestly believe that any Joe Schmoe off the streets can just walk right up to the 2nd in line to the Presidency of the United States home and hold her husband hostage and demand God knows what?

Question. I am not from the US so I have very little knowledge of this that I have gathered from a few posts I skimmed through around here and reddit.

As I understand it, the ‘counter-narrative’ is that the assault was the result of some sex games gone wrong. Is that correct? If that is the case - why do people care so much about this? If an 82 year old couple is able to maintain a flourishing kinky sex life with other consenting adults, isn’t that a very positive thing? And, since this such a private matter, so what if they don’t want the public to know?

I agree that having the police officially help them perpetuate a lie is not a good thing - but, at the same time, why do people feel so entitled to their sex lives? Why should these guys be forced to release such a personal video of a violent assault on them in their own property - regardless of whether this was an invited friend or an outside invader? The whole thing is so weird to me. The poor guys definitely had an awful time!

      A few things.

      1. They originally blamed this attack on Trump supporters. You can still see this lie promoted on left wing media like the reddit sub Fuckthealtright

Democrats like the Pelosies are still saying this was done by a “January 6er” or what ever.

Where in reality it was done by a hippie in his underwear, a member of the green party. The complete opposite of a trump supporter.

If he was indeed a gay prostitute or gay lover that just makes it even more rediculous that they are blaming republicans.

      1. The Pelosi’s are famous for corruption.

For example, a few days before the US was set to vote on funding domestic chip production (Giving billions of free dollars to chip makers to produce chips in the US) Mr Pelosi bought millions of dollars worth of NVIDIA Stock.

This is illegal insider trading and they do this sort of thing routinely.

So people are looking for a reason to expose them for being corrupt.

        Thanks, that explains it.

The other headlines gave me the impression that this was about trying to smear the Pelosi’s reputation by shaming their sex lives, but with this additional context it is clear to me that it is about them exploiting the opportunity to push the narrative of right-wing extremism. It makes sense to me that people would be so invested in setting the record straight.

It is an extreme case because it is such a personal event, but at the same time I do notice the efforts that the democrats make to spread the anti right-wing narrative. It is not entirely implausible, so I would not be quick to disregard someone who questions the official narrative as a ‘conspiracy theorist’.

On the other hand, I also try to imagine the scenario in which the official narrative is true. I do empathize with the decision to try to keep something like this private. I also understand that since this is such a high profile case and used to push a political narrative, people feel rightly entitled to the evidence. I would suggest to at least release the videos of the person breaking into the house, and leave out the more graphic content.

It is not about his sex life.

The problem is they have put out this story blaming the attack on Nancy’s political opponents. Those attacks have been undertaken by Nancy, Biden, a bunch of their political allies and the corrupt media.

In America it is standard operating procedure to release police body cam, 911 call recordings, etc to protect the public from police wrong doing. They have refused to release them.

The story they have told is ever changing and has a bunch of inconsistencies that do not add up. The police body can and 911 recordings would clarify those inconsistencies.

Finally you have what appears to be a mentally challenged individuals charged with an array of very serious crimes. To make sure they are justified and proven, this information needs to be released. It would hardly be justice to have the authorities bully a mentally challenged individual in order to effect a cover up.

        Thank you!

I have replied to Masterofballs below as he also provided some of the context, and thank you for providing some more. It makes perfect sense, and I do think that it is very reasonable to expect more concrete evidence to be released.

Do you mind if I ask which country you are from? The Lemmy community might be small, but it is global.
