Police ultimately tracked down a “contract” signed by both the runaway parents and one would-be buyer, who was identified by authorities as Cody Martin.

It read: “I Darien Urban and Shalene Ehlers are signing our rights over to Cody Nathaniel Martin of our baby boy for $1,000 on 09/21/2024.

“Disclaimer: Alter signing this there will be no changing yall two’s minds and to never contact again.”

I feel sorry for the baby, but that’s some top-notch contract writing.

The “yall” is underrated in contract law.

      that’s some top-notch contract writing.

You jest, but for all its faults, this “contract” is a lot clearer and to the point than most real contracts and EULAs I’ve ever had the misfortune to review.

When mum and dad get parenting advice from the Charles Manson biography.

“Mom was in a café one afternoon with me on her lap. The waitress, a would-be mother without a child of her own, jokingly told my Mom she’d buy me from her. Mom replied, ‘A pitcher of beer and he’s yours.’ The waitress set up the beer, Mom stuck around long enough to finish it off and left the place without me. Several days later my uncle had to search the town for the waitress and take me home.”

I would never encourage abortion for anyone who didn’t have health concerns. But it should be an option for anyone. People’s bodies are their own.

To be fair abortion is not risk-free and side-effectless. It’s much preferable to encourage the use of contraceptives in those situations.

The is the America trump wants you to have.

Surely you meant “This is the America you live in right now”.

There’s no wanting involved. The deed is done.

At least in this case, the baby boy now has a chance to have a normal life and is not in danger anymore. If there’s anything comforting to take away from that sad story.

I suppose what I meant was- this type of shit becoming the norm. How do you think the future of not wanting to have kids, but being forced to is going to go exactly?

Well, 14 states currently ban abortion. I am not a woman, but if I was and of child-bearing age, I would move out in a hurry.

I know it’s easier said than done for a lot of folks for a lot of reasons, but besides the risk of having to carry out a pregnancy I did not want for whatever reason, and having to go through that particular hell, I would be ashamed to live in a state that treats women like that.

Agreed. And it’s why I said this is the type of America Trump wants. As long as pregnancies are forced- people will stop at no end to unload the burden on others in any way they can. Which would mean up to and/or including selling their babies illegally.

Suggesting all women flee Everytime a law is passed that doesn’t work for us is short sighted. I’m not leaving my entire support system on the chance I get pregnant. First off, we’re trying to get the laws changed. We’re voting, and getting new abortion guidelines on the ballots. Second, yes, all women in my state should have a little vacation fund in case they want to visit the North in a hurry. A six week ban is ridiculous.

I was thinking the same thing. They have different last names, bit that doesn’t mean anything. The article doesn’t indicate they are related to each other. But it definitely looks like they came from the same gene puddle.

Honestly, I just feel sorry for the little one. Life is unfair enough, but to get such a shitty start? I mean, these very early life experiences can set the tone for your whole life. Hopefully he gets placed with a family who can help him through that.

Kinda shitty that the sperms donor is out of jail but the mom isn’t. But that’s the south I guess; keep punishing those women for having the sex!

(they both belong in jail, until/unless it comes out in trial that one of them, like the one with a history of battery, was making the other do this against their will)
