They’re about to start back up an old ass rust bucket nuke reactor on the shore of Lake Michigan that was shut down. It ran for 50 years which is like a life cycle for a plant. They think $1.5 billion is enough to bring it back for another 30+ years and not have anything go wrong…except for the steam generator (the piece that handles the contact point between the radioactive side and non radioactive steam) that needs replace…er “repairs”
The plant operated for 50 years before closing in May 2022. Last year, Holtec pitched bringing it back online. Holtec said it hopes to get a decision from the NRC in May or June of next year and then be allowed to restart in October. The plant would be allowed to operate until at least 2051, the release said.
