Xenia, the fox girl mascot of Linux, was first designed in 1996 by Alan Mackey. She was meant to be an alternative to Tux, the official mascot.

She had fallen into obscurity, but was noticed by a Twitter user in 2019 and was redrawn as a fox girl. But as it turned out, Xenia was originally meant to be male! The original creator, Alan, was cool with this, saying “It matches the transition of a lot of the smartest, nerdiest Linux users I know” and “And sure, you made her trans!”.

So now we have a trans Linux mascot. And I think that’s neat.

I know I’m kind of necroposting replying at this point but the reason I don’t post on DIY more as someone who loves that kind of thing (besides laziness and forgetting it exists) is not wanting to doxx myself with photos of my desk or workbench or whatever (or like, here’s what kind of apartment I live in, or what model of car or bike I have, etc etc).

But I think I could achieve enough opsec to be happy (maybe have a segregated account just for DIYposting idk) and have posted a bit of DIY-ish stuff in the past. The DIY electrolysis machine has been pretty inspiring but my posting would mostly be little tweaks and mods and special interests probably. I also need to take pictures of things while I do them lol
