That’s because Marxism is philosophically completely opposed to religion. Any idelogical closing to religion is always result of adopting idealism, abandoning marxist positions, and usually coupled with political opportunism.
Example, though not ML yet since it was 1908+, were people like Anatoly Lunacharsky or Alexander Bogdanov (though neither of them ever arrived at the point of cult since their devolution was stopped at some point before).
