Long-running Japanese video game publication Famitsu recently ran a poll for its readers to select their favourite PlayStation games in celebration of the brand’s 30th anniversary. Over 4000 votes were submitted, allowing the magazine to compile an impressive list of 30 best PlayStation games across all systems.
The list includes a mix of classics and modern hits, but surprisingly, not even a single PS5 game made the top 30.
Key Points:
- Top Game: Final Fantasy VII
- No PS5 Games Among Top 30
- PS1 Dominance: Multiple titles from the PS1 era topped key positions in the ranking
What do you say is the best PlayStation (PS1-5) game?
In case you didn’t want to go to Twitter, here’s the list:

An article based on twitter post based on screenshot of a spreadsheet. 🤢
I love seeing Xenogears so high on this list.
Honestly, I’m surprised Crash Bandicoot & The Last of Us barely squeaked in at the bottom of the list.
Japanese people really like Japanese devs.
I am surprised that Symphony of the Night isn’t on there.
It’s in my top three PS1 games personally, so I agree, but this list is full of interesting biases.
Was that big in Japan?
I like the old Arc the Lad games and I always forget that Japan just loves them.
Still can’t believe that (spoiler for Astro Bot)
Tap for spoiler
there is not a Cloud or other FFVII character Astro Bot among the 301 rescue able bots in the entire game
… :(
I didn’t realise dynasty warriors was so popular.
Only 3 monster hunter titles?
Best one? Final Fantasy X
Best one not listed? inFamous 2
I’m surprised to see Arc the Lad voted so high. I thought I was the only person who liked that series.
Anyone mind sharing the list in the comments? I have Xitter blocked at the router.
Thought DQ8 woulda placed where DQ7 was considering it was the breakout hit stateside, which in turn would suggest it did absolute numbers in the JP market, which has famously been hot for DQ games.
FF7 earned that top spot though.
