At the 2024 White House Tribal Nations Summit today, Departments of the Interior, Education and Health and Human Services (HHS) released a 10-year National Plan on Native Language Revitalization, which outlines a comprehensive, government-wide strategy to support the revitalization, protection, preservation and reclamation of Native languages.

That’s actually great news - languages are directly tied to identity, it’s part of what gives you a sense of belonging, of being who you are and part of a community. Marginalising and threatening a language is the same as doing it with its speakers; kill a culture and you’ll inevitably kill its speakers, and vice versa.
I don’t know if the plan will be successful, but I hope that it does.
